yeah...i know there are probably TONS of slipknot discussions but this is really annoying me. i mean if you don't find slipknot metal enough for the archives fine BUT whats up with the other supposed "mallcore" bands on here that are allowed? killswitch engage?between the buried and me?DRAGONFORCE?!?when i also saw underoath too i almost had a heart attack.besides, slipknot has come a long way. their last two albums didn't really have much of a "nu metal" influence and they have also incorporated guitar solos into their songs. Also, if their supposedly "not metal" how do explain that Machine head and Children of bodom (2 metal bands) are the opening acts for Slipknot's European tour? i'm not trying to piss anyone off but this just doesn't seem right to me. Also sorry for bad grammar.

Two things:

One: This should be brought up in the Suggestions and Complaints sub-forum. The Metal Discussion area is specifically for Metal threads that are generally un-related to the main site's content.

Two: While I don't disagree with you regarding slipknot being on the forums, I also don't entirely disagree with the moderator's decision to exclude them.

i kinda see what you are getting at but their only album that is close to what the archives would consider metal is mate feed kill repeat because of its large death metal influence

Learn what metal is first before trying to argue to include such a well known and controversial band.

If you really can't understand why Dragonforce is on the archives and Slipknot is not you are horrible at determining what is metal.

Just because a band is more metal than another band does not make them metal.

Plastic is closer to metal than wood. Plastic is not metal.

Slipknot are not excluded because they are mallcore, they are excluded because they are not metal. While Killswitch Engage are also mallcore, they are metal. Slipknot are not metal. They are really downtuned emo hardcore with tough guy vocals.

Also, Underoath are on here because of one (or a series, not totally sure) of their early albums when Dallas Taylor (Now the singer for Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, who I think are good) was singing and they were playing metal. Given that the rules say a band CAN get in off of ONE metal album, they're in.

Also, just because metal bands are opening for them does not in any way shape or form imply that they are metal. Suicidal Tendencies has opened for Pantera, but that doesn't make Pantera crossover.

Denying DragonForce are metal is just idiotic. Whether they're good or not has nothing to do with anything.

Why can't people jus accept the rules that this site has? If you think you know it better, well then you just make your own site with your own rules...

If you had read the rules and FAQ's before you post stupid shit like this, your question would have already been answered.

Basically, Slipknot lacks elements that other metal bands have.

A simple search brings this up-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equality_(mathematics)

The point is that metal does not necessarily imply yelling, nor does yelling necessarily imply metal. Hence the lack of equivalence or general equality. This does of course not in any way imply that elements (songs/albums/bands) cannot hold both qualities.

Agmkreptile, please do read the rules and FAQ.

Mark, please read the board rules. Such one-liners à la "in before the lock" are discouraged.

Certainly any argument that 'Oh but metal bands have opened for them, therefore they're metal' is self evidently nonsense. I've got a festival coming up where In Flames are on the same bill as Alkaline Trio. What does that tell you?

Is the author of this thread really not able to find resources with Slipknot information on the internet?

This site has had to make a lot of interesting fringe decisions. Deep Purple and Rush made it, yet Led Zeppelin and Uriah Heep did not. If I were giving the benefit of the doubt I'd go with pre-metal bands rather than this post metal sound Slipknot has.

I can see how LZ influenced the genre, but I can't see them being called metal. Deep Purple is a completely different story, though.

I own Deep Purple and Shades of Deep Purple which are both very much bluesy rock in the vein of Zeppelin. Maybe I am missing out on some major course-change they took in later albums.

I'd say Machine Head is definitely metal. Shades of Deep Purple isn't really the album you should be looking at.

Machine Head and to an extent In Rock are where Deep Purple really went metal. Quite awesome metal as well! Give Boris' review of Machine Head a review. ;)

I hate where this thread started out, but love where it went.

I love Deep Purple! And Led Zeppelin!

But, to be on topic...

The OP is asking about Slipknot...

At least one of their releases must be metal if they are to be included...

Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat is experimental alternative rock with heavy metal influences, it is their most metal album through Vol. 3

Slipknot is nu-metal. Iowa is nu-metal. Vol.3 is nu-metal. Nu-metal is not allowed on this site.

All Hope is Gone is different from the above three, but it is still nu-metal mixed with metalcore and melodic death metal. It has about the same amount of metal as Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat, but the non-metal parts are different from MFKR. The non-metal parts are the nu-metal parts, and they still dominate on this album.

There you go. That's why Slipknot is not on here. I'd say wait until their next album, but a part of me wishes they break up before then.

It all boils down to people thinking they know what bands are metal. Then thinking if they don't think they're metal, then they're not. All of this being fact and not an opinion.

If they lose their masks and shrink the band down to 4 or 5 guys, it will LOOK more metal.

I was actually hoping, for some reason, that this thread would be about the crossover band that is in the archives, because they're pretty fucking good.

I thought so too because since this thread has been able to go on as long as it has, I actually checked the archives to see if indeed Slipknot had been accepted after all(thankfully not) only to discover that there is another band on here called Slipknot. Of course, I actually haven't heard that one yet.
