CHILDREN OF BODOM have set Halo of Blood as the title of their eagerly anticipated eighth studio album, set for a June 06 European release, and a June 11 North American release via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, CHILDREN OF BODOM unveils Halo of Blood's cover art, created by artist Sami Saramäki, known for his work on the classic COB records Follow the Reaper, Are You Dead Yet? and Hate Crew Deathroll.

The band's bass player Henkka Blacksmith comments, "We wanted to have a winter scene. Somehow it fits well with the atmosphere of the music and the composing session. It could be Lake Bodom actually, frozen, with people trapped under the ice. Very Finnish looking scene.

We were really happy how Sami created the whole imagery!"

CHILDREN OF BODOM recorded Halo of Blood in Finland's Danger Johnny Studios (located at a top secret, undisclosed location in Helsinki) with recording engineer Mikko Karmila, who worked with the band on their earlier albums Hatebreeder, Follow the Reaper and Hate Crew Deathroll and producer Peter Tägtgren (Marduk, Amon Amarth) who oversaw production of both vocals and keyboards on the record. The album will be mixed at Finnvox Studios.

CHILDREN OF BODOM frontman Alexi Laiho comments, "Halo Of Blood is the eighth studio album from Children of Bodom. Musically, we've kept it fresh and new while still maintaining the elements that make COB's sound so recognizable. This new album has both the fastest and the slowest songs we've ever made and lyrically, there are themes we've never touched on before. Prepare yourselves for ten tracks of pure Nordic metal!"

Halo of Blood track listing:

01 Waste of Skin
02 Halo of Blood
03 Scream for Silence
04 Transference
05 Bodom Blue Moon (The Second Coming)
06 The Days are Numbered
07 Dead Man's Hand on You
08 Damage Beyond Repair
09 All Twisted
10 One Bottle and a Knee Deep

Source: http://www.cobhc.com/

So, there's always the hope that they'll make a comeback. I'm especially curious if they'll try to incorporate a stronger black metal influence to match the supposed winter theme, because their earliest dabblings with that didn't really carry that atmosphere. On the other hand, it's a lot more believable they'll take the Wintersun route.

I actually quite like that art. Looks a lot better than the last album's art.

ugh...I, for some reason, keep hoping that the next album will be a return to form for CoB. I've not liked any of their material since after Hate Crew Deathroll (and even that didn't come close to masterpieces like Hatebreeder and Follow the Reaper). Chances are, I'll end up forgetting this even exists :(

Their last two albums have sucked ass, and really the only out and out great one they have is Follow the Reaper. The song titles are surprisingly unshitty though, and the cover art is good...I'll probably check it out for nostalgia sake and see what the boys have vomited out this time.

Really dig that cover.

Even though I've lost interest in this band since AYDY, I'll still check it out. If it sounds similar to their first three records (maybe four, Hate Crew was alright), I'll be satisfied.

If there is ever a show called 'Bands that should be wiped off the face of Earth', COB will feature within the first 3 episodes.

CoB's albums have sucked ass starting with AYDY (Follow the Reaper being their magnum opus, I still really adore that album a lot, and the two other early albums are very good too), and even with their bland as hell music of late, I am still hoping for some kind of a solid 7/10 -album, like HCDR. We'll see. The titles are decent as is the art. We'll see.

Take the nostalgia part out and these are pretty much my thoughts. My expectations are anything but high, yet this does have a significantly better appearance than their previous turd. Consider me mildly intrigued.

The roundness on the left side of the 'B' by the reaper's head kind of makes it look like he has a halo, and since the text is red, it would give the illusion that it is a halo of blood. Maybe? Nah, I don't know, I'm just bullshitting.

A friend of mine that I showed the art to actually wasn't too big on the color of the font of both the band name and the album name; said it made the art look more cartoon-y. I don't see how it's cartoon-y at all.

That's a really cool cover, but it will probably still suck just like most of their albums!

The cover art is truly sweet to behold, surprisingly a beauty, which sadly won't live up to the music unless some sort of creative miracle happens. I'll check out a couple songs, but more than likely I'll be "screaming for silence" if their recent work is any indication.

The artwork looked bland to me. I get the intention was probably to go for a vast desolate landscape look, but looks uninteresting to me. With a title like 'Halo of Blood', they could've tried something else. Anyway, I hardly even remember any of the past Bodom covers...this will join them soon. Regarding the song titles, I'd be interested to hear 'Bodom Blue Moon' out of sheer curiosity.

I'm still holding out hope for some reason. Maybe it's because of the better looking album art than recent albums. Maybe it's because they're working with Peter Tägtgren. Maybe I'm just an idiot. Either way, they killed when I saw them live two years ago, and they had a decent focus on their old material.

This is by far the best looking cover they ever had. (Maybe the only good one, actually). It's been a while since I cared for the band, but I hope this will be a good album doing the artwork justice.

The way I figure it, the amount of time wasted listening to a CoB album is still more time than they actually took coming up with any of the songs/concepts/music. So it doesn't matter if you listen to it just to make fun of how shitty it is.

Well Emp, considering Laiho's lyrics, I'm willing to believe your theory. It's as if the fucker wrote that shit on the spot.

I'll give it a listen when it comes out but if it's as lame as their last few releases I won't be buying it. I've come to terms with the fact that we're not going to get Follow the Reaper part 2. I'm all for a band evolving but I think CoB is going in the wrong direction. Devolving perhaps.

I'm gonna say it, I didn't mind their last album. Obviously wasn't up to par with their first three or four albums, but it was somewhat better than the couple of records that came before it and I would have no qualms about calling it "good".

I thought Blooddrunk was pretty alright with some great songs and a few meh ones. Can't say that I'm very excited about the new album though but I'll check it out.

The last one wasn't as bad as many said but they still are far below the level of the first three. Hope they come through on tour though. I'll grab this one.

Nice cover, could use some more blood though. Looking forward to this, they always have a good sound and Laiho does amazing stuff on the guitar. Still waiting for Are You Dead Yet II but I guess that'll never happen. By the song titles looks as if it's going to follow COB's common album pattern of starting out strong and going downhill, ending with some pointless song.

Even though I literally laughed out loud when I heard that title, I think this can be a return to their old sound so that's good for people who like them.

I heard some of the new music in a studio update and it sounded really like the older material so I have high hopes for this new album.

I just feel like the band's material declined in quality after Alexander Kuoppala left. Though I did enjoy Are You Dead Yet..

That statement can't be objectively evaluated by us, as for we don't know your son. We have to take your word for it (which is always kinda iffy, for people on the internet are known to be prone to bragging)...

If by that you mean that modern day COB is just slightly less annoying than a kid making a hassle, then I agree, for the most part. It'd be cool if you contributed to the discussion instead of going around waving your metal dick in front of other people's faces, though.

I like everything they've done up until Blooddrunk. That album was so bad I didn't even check out their next album. Not holding high hopes for this one; the OP's hopes that they bring back more of a BM influence are a long-shot I'm afraid.

I only like their first few, but the cover art is cool enough that I at least feel compelled to listen to a few songs from this new one. I hope it's good.

Follow The Reaper is the only album I've ever bothered checking out but I give this album credit for having some of their best titles in at least a decade.

This might be just a detail, but the front cover gave me the impression that they were going to change their style for the better... until I realized that what I thought were stones were in fact people trapped under ice...
