So easy than that. I´m very interested in knowing the albums that we can consider the first in this subgenre. Obviously, Death - Pierce Me by Silencer it´s a must, but, which more?

Depending on what you consider DSBM, Bethlehem, Deinonychus and Xasthur precede that.

DSBM as a fusion between traditional black metal with slow tempos, tend to doom, with passages of affliction and painful ambient, agonic vocals and all the rest decadent elements. Like Pensées Nocturnes, Dead, Nocturnal Depression, etc.

Strid - End of Life demo/Strid EP

This is common knowledge.

You can probably go back as far as BM goes and find a demo that sounds DSBM. Like Strid or Forgotten Woods. But it really took off with Abyssic Hate's Suicidal Emotions album.

Bethlehem....the alpha and omega.

I would be surprised if another band released a full album of DSBM before them.

Ask Shane and he'll say Strid, too.

This kind of discussion is quite funny. I am not that purist and Bethlehem played black metal which was truly depressing and those vocals...
Strid´s demo is quite old, I dont know something older than this a Metal Archives seems to agree:

"The band is commonly recognised as the creators of depressive black metal.".

Yeah not sure if I'd count Bethlehem, they've got the vocals, but they always struck me as more of a black/doom rather than what I think of when I think DSBM.

Bethlehem definitely is something different entirely.

Bethlehem is its own genre. Perhaps not so coincidentally, it still shits on most "DSBM" from a great height to this very day.

I'd go with Strid too.

Still a bit later than Strid, but if you're just interested in earlier examples of the genre, Nidhoggr's Ravens over the Road of Kings always seems to be a bit overlooked.

I remember what a big laugh the baboon vocals on that Sortsind album were when it came out, then years later people started to praise it.

Ok if we are mentioning animal noises we can't go any further without mentioning that DSBM band 'Drown In Solitude' who have an elephant as their vocalist.

What, Bethlehem isnt DSBM?

I assumed it was at least a similar situation as Sabbath is to Doom and Venom is to Black, etc...

Anyways Im gonna have to listen to Strid and the others mentioned here.

For me Burzum seems to be the most direct precursor/early influence of the genre.

I'd go out on a limb and state it's the opposite in this case: in the mind of some, Venom did take a big step forward but didn't quite land into full black metal territory. Bethlehem, on the other hand, have always been too quirky, diversified and unique to be considered "just" DSBM.
