That Morbid Saint cover screams that kind of mediocre retro-thrash, bordering melodeath the scene has drowned in. Why they chose red for the logo on that background is beyond me.

This is an album cover I saw as a teenager and thought "fuck yeah, that looks intense and metal, yeah I dig it" but growing older I look back and think "man, that is corny as fuck, I can't believe I thought that looked good". It's not the worst offender here by a long shot, and I guess this random 'gate to hell' wouldn't look as corny if it didn't have those ridiculously huge skulls photoshopped on either side. Like, there's no point other than "BLUGGHH WE NEED MOAR DEATH!!!" - it's like the cover of a Playstation 2 game, which I guess adds up since this album came out in 2002.

.........................but fuck me if this album isn't a god damn ripper.

Not a particular cover to spotlight, but pretty much any album cover that was made using AI technology has looked atrocious thus far.

I think what really gets me about the AI generated covers is how little effort has been put into it after generating the initial image.
I'll be the devil's advocate and say that I think a lot of AI generated content looks sick, but not everything fits as an album cover. At least put in a little effort to colour correct, edit, add, remove, whatever to make it look the best it can.

Susperia have a bunch of four really ugly works. Only 'Vindication' and 'The Lyricist' are tolerable.

I was browsing an online distro recently and stumbled across this band. Although this was not the album I originally researched, upon digging deeper into their catalog I discovered this album, and spent several minutes trying to sort through the emotions it left me experiencing upon seeing the cover art for the first time. It was most definitely a WTF moment. I'm not posting this for shock, it's more confusion honestly, as I don't understand what is going on in the picture.

def one of the best bad album covers ever, its actually good musically too. Some of the best black/death ever imo.

It was done by the guy who did Rust in Peace, Peace Sells, Game Over, etc. They probably just picked him because he's still working and he used to be the guy you go to if you want an awesome thrash metal cover, without realizing this is the kind of stuff he makes now.

Nae'blis's "Sketches of Reality" is fantastic, but the cover literally looks like it was done in Unity!

I feel like pretty much everything I've seen from Ed Repka these last 10 or so years has been really lacklustre. His style is obviously still very recognizable, but eh
