Just had a thought, how many songs can you think of that employ the use of a digeridoo? Off the top of my head I can think of 3...

It always surprises me that there are relatively few bands that incorporate influences from any tribal culture (be it Australasian, African, etc). The hypnotic/ritualistic feel always works well with metal in my opinion.

Diskord makes some weird as hell Death Metal. This song has didgeridoo beginning at 2:03. Really fucking ominous sounding.

That song inspired me to write some metal with didgeridoo as well, although the riffing style is much different. Starts at 2:10. I tried to keep it somewhat subtle. Adds a nice atmosphere. :D

Adam from alchemist plays with palf from alarum in the levitation hex these days. Both share vocals, last album was killer. No digeridoos so sorry for being slightly off topic, but well worth a listen for alchemist fans

I'm surprised too.. I remember hearing a demo of an aboriginal death metal band that came from far up north of SA back in high school. But it was a friend of mine telling me this, rather than seeing any evidence they were aboriginal or even Australian myself, it sounded good from memory. I reckon the didgeridoo could incorporate well in some bands.

The Gathering make great use of a digeridoo on the song 'South American Ghost Ride' from the album 'How to Measure a Planet'. That's such a fantastic album, and therefore bound to be my favorite use of the instrument in any music.

I thought the preproduction version of Gamma Ray's Dream Healer used a digeridoo at the beginning, but I can't actually tell whether it's not just a guitar or not heh.

This is the first song that came to mind as it opens with a didgeridoo, but they make somewhat frequent use of them throughout their discography.

I've bumped into aboriginies into Slayer and the like at festivals, and I think plenty of them are into the more mainstream hard rock like KISS and Guns 'N Roses, so I wouldn't call it 'hard as hell'.

Don't wanna step on toes or stomp boots, but i'm Indidge mate. There's one photo of me on MA, but you can't see my eye colour or tell anything about my genetics from that.

Lot of me mates (elders etc) say the white man needs to find his own magic here. Since I didn't know my blackblood at the time one of the "big bosses" told me such, I got stuck into it, and it turns out my white heritage is just as interesting as well. To cut a long story short got into English/Anglo-Saxon/Germanic magic and told me Nulla and Koori crew the meaning of Arckanum lyrics. If you're ever drivin' through Coober Pedy area and hear Black Metal playing, pull over and ask if they know me. They either do, or they know someone who does.

The first band thought of when I read the title was Alchemist but I think Mortification has used one.
I have heaps of Aussie metal here, I’ll pore over my collection one day and see if I can find more, Blood Duster possibly used one too

I really like the sound of a Didgeridoo and the Bullroarer, we used to make them at school with a ruler and some string, freaky sound that one...

There are a few Indigenous Australian metal/rock bands, however. South East Desert Metal (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLAYyI5b1qQ) and Nokturnl (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXZCjUr7_Fs) come to mind. I don't think many have incorporated indigenous sounds into their music.

This thread got me to listen to some old Alchemist albums, which is something I haven't done in a while. What a great band. Spiritech is like Neurosis's Through Silver in Blood laced with more melody and a sort of weird exotic stamp all the band's own...hypnotic, mesmerizing stuff. I also ordered Austral Alien from Amazon for like 7 bucks. Good deal.
