I'm pretty sure Orange Goblin announced that a new album would be coming out this year but we now have a title, release date, artwork, and first single.

http://loudwire.com/orange-goblin-the-d ... -premiere/

I can definitely dig this track, if only because it sounds more like Motorhead than the actual Motorhead has in a while. I also loved Eulogy for the Damned so you can color me excited for this album.

It also sounds more like Motorhead than it does Orange Goblin. Damn, I haven't heard an Orange Goblin song since the 90s but I like this more than I remember liking their stoner blues way back then.

The track is pretty fun, Orange Goblin has always released good albums and this will be no exception. Way more Motorheadesque than usual though, I think this can be nice.

Whoa, that really is very different than their previous stuff, but it rocks. Way more booze and less pot. I wonder if it's kind of a one-off fast track or if it's actually representative of the album. Stoked to check more out!

All their albums have been killer in their own way, even if Frequencies and Eulogy are pretty far removed from each other.
That new song sounds more like Motörhead than any of their previous material, and I bet it'll be awesome for it. But in the end their more stoner-inspired metal is what really gets me going, so I hope they'll stick a bit to their roots.

I am definitely digging on the new track that's been posted. Pretty eager to hear what the rest of this is going to sound like but am confident I will enjoy it. This band has always been very consistent in what they do.

Decent album cover, though I would've been a bit happier without that atrocious font used for the album title. Oh and that lens flare too.

Apart from that, the song is, like everyone has said, very Motorhead-ish. Nothing wrong with that because I sense the dudes are only teasing us with off-kilter material. I am looking forward to a varied album.

Sounds great! Orange Goblin have done no wrong, the more I listen to them the more I love them. From their more stoner or rawer punkier stuff, they have their sound and they always rock. Plus, I really love Ben Ward's vocals. I have a soft spot for Coup de Grace (well all of their four first albums) so this has potential.

It only feels like they put out the previous album about a month ago! Maybe I'm being a little unfair in saying this new song sounds like it didn't take all that long to write. Or maybe not. I didn't really care for it anyway.

I just picked up a copy of Eulogy For The Damned and not long after found a copy of Eulogy For The Fans, I didn't realise they were different! [I do now obviously] I read they had split up so decided to finally give them another go.
The Big Black is by far my favourite Orange Goblin album

How tall is their singer? he looks frikkin' immense

Really digging Sabbath Hex. The song doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything but it's damn solid. It's also nice to hear Ben Ward utilizing his cleaner vocal style in parts on this track as I've always really enjoyed that aspect of his sound quite a bit. Pretty excited to hear the rest of the album, it's shaping up to be one of their better efforts so far. Neat music video too.

I like the new song better than the first one.

However, I can't help but feel very ambiguous towards to the new album. Sure, it's much in the same vein as Eulogy, but it seems much less unique than all their previous albums did. I can't help but think that if Back From the Abyss was my first experience with OG, I wouldn't have checked out any of their other material.

But time will tell. Let's see when the entire album is released.

I can see that there are similar elements. But the similarities are pretty few.

I was reminded of that Maiden right away too. I don't know, it almost looks inspired by that scene. Similar color scheme, Astronaut in foreground, skull in helmet, planet in background center, Abyss... Frontier?

Seriously, the cover art is not at all quite surprising. It seems like a good ol' Orange Goblin art to me. The single "Sabbath Hex" is solid as usual. Will listen to the entire album eventually.

In case you're still wondering:

Ben Ward wrote:
Anyway, we had the luxury of flying via Aer Lingus (as opposed to fucking Ryanair!) and we managed to catch our flight on time, landing in Dublin just a couple of hours later. The majority of our flights have been very comfortable for me this year, bearing in mind that I am 6’ 5” tall!

The album's killer btw. Picked up my physical copy last week and definitely ending up in my top 5. Will probably write a review within a few days. It's quite surprising that it has no reviews yet on MA.

Finally got around to giving this a few spins. I am really enjoying it and the album has met and exceeded my expectations. I'd say it's definitely better than the last couple they've released, and furthermore, I feel as if this one showcases the full range of Orange Goblin's sound throughout the entirety of their career. One of the most "fun" albums of the year in my opinion.

So I've been listening to the new album a good handful of times, and I've come to the conclusion that I like the first half of the album and dislike the second half.
Though it's not a weak album as such I would consider it their weakest effort yet. Generally there're some tracks - namely in the latter half of the album - that sound decisively like filler tracks. I found especially the last four tracks to be forgettable in a way I haven't experienced with Orange Goblin before.
Whereas Sabbath Hex, Devil's Whip, Demon Blues and the first half of Heavy Lies the Crown are filled with the groovy sabbathian choruses and catchy guitar riffs, the rest of the songs kind of just meander around with no obvious purpose.
