I can't recall which one I have, but I know it's not Battlefields I think I would've remembered that. but with a description like that I'll def have to pick it up. Bloodthorn is one of those bands I have a release or two from but I can take or leave them. They aren't special to me. but hell a combo of Graveland and Bolt Thrower sounds like a sure fire like for me.

Oh, Drudkh does have riffs. Three on average per a ten minutes long song.

I haven't listened to Rattenfänger, but it might be worth checking out. Blood of Kingu, especially the debut album, shows that Roman Saenko has great abilities as a songwriter.

I should have specified "good riffs" I guess. I like plenty of black metal that's *like* Drudkh, but that band itself has never really done anything for me.

Honestly, I think Hate Forest is the most interesting thing Roman's done.

Me too. I think Drudkh is overrated, Roman has done better stuff, Hate Forest being my favorite. But its not a band that's easy to like.

yea I pre-ordered it. I think it's a great continuation of their sound. It's pretty much further exploration of what the did on the first album but I guess slightly less haunting and I guess dark. And as much as I like the 2nd track on the first album at times I found it grating because of the constant blast beat that never changed.... there is nothing like that on this 2nd album.

oh the ambient tracks... I give them a once over and then that's it. I don't bother past that. It was neat for that first time but I remember the first time I listened to that first album and I was like oh sweet long songs and one's 30 mins. and I kept waiting for a song to actually start. I frowned as the song ended.

I remember hearing this band. Very sinister sounding death/doom, the Ukrainians have done it again! Very different, and I hope it's not just a one-time thing. Those 4 guys have great chemistry as songwriters.

Also, don't know what's going on up above, but all I'm going to say is that Drudkh is awesome.

In terms of what I think that argument is about, I'll just say that it's not about what you play, or how much you do. It's about the way you play it. I for one, love the emotion they put into everything.

I was thinking mainly about the one Turn of the wheel which is about the seasons on whatever album it was. I doubt it is any more profound in Ukrainian, seeing as the meaning is something like "Summer is hot/Winter is not/Spring-a-ding-a-ling/Autumn I forgot."

I never really got into Drudkh other than a few songs here and there, and Blood of Kingu didn't do much for me as far as I recall.
I'm loving the production on this album though! Pretty good songwriting, really slow and dragging death doom the way I like it... Reminds me a bit of Coffins and Anatomia. Didn't really think the Drudkh people had it in them to produce such an album, it seems so far removed from the Drudkh/BoK stuff I've heard

Coffins and Anatomia!!

Someone knows good Japanese metal ;)

Tono from Anatomia is a friend of mine.... Seen them plenty of times, and they've changed their sound a few times, but still manage to slaughter.....
Their new stuff with their new keyboardist is funeral doom

so weird I haven't heard any of their material with a keyboardist. But I can see how it can easily morph in their current style.

Last year's "Hammer Sonic" (Osaka metal/punk annual festival) was the first time I saw them play that style. I suppose they should have an album in the works coming out soon.

Hell yeah! I'm really in to Anatomia. I enjoy both Dissected Humanity and Decaying in Obscurity, I really like that dry, heavy doom sound mixed with Autopsy-esque death metal. I guess I never really thought about the change in style.
I'll hopefully get to see them next month with Undergang a few hours from where I live.

Yeah, they kinda went from Autopsy-style doom/death, to Samael-influenced black/doom, and now funeral doom.

I guess they just don't want to be pigeonholed into one genre.

Usually their shows include hot Japanese fetish models standing on stage with them....... kinda weird but interesting.

well doom seems to be the foundation at least of their sound which I'm happy they are keeping with.

Damn, Anatomia were great but I don't really like much funeral doom, so I'm not sure I'd be happy with this new direction.

If he means the Decaying in Obscurity album I don't think the funeral doomy parts are very outspoken, so if you haven't listened to it I don't think you'll be all to disappointed.
Don't know about potential new material though

A lot of the newer stuff they've been doing live is very slow with a lot of ambient synths......

I guess Tono has the same taste in dark/atmospheric music that I do, some of his favorite bands being Diamanda Galas, Einsturzende Neubauten, Swans, Dead Can Dance, Dark Sanctuary, etc.....

Decayed in Obscurity is pretty solidly doom/death. The Samael "Blood Ritual" influence is a little more prevalent when they play the material live.....
