^ I wondered that, but I think calling them demos adds to their charm, they're each a snap shot into Wintherrs' mysterious world, beginningless and endless - perpetual winter, take them for what they are; curios.
Calling them albums would suggest order and sound too defined, maybe?

The demo tag would suggest to keep them rooted in the underground but they have far out-grown this over the last number of years. I think it is still pretty cool and adds to the mystery of the band. Cant wait to grab this fucker!

I know its a silly question, but taking into account the length of the songs and the demo itself. Why it is released as a demo and not as a offficial album?

i have secretly been pondering this myself with a lot of bm, i have noticed some bands demos are not really much longer 'or not at all' than official albums.

Ordered mine, can't wait! Curious to see how long these last.

Edit: Too bad it's not the middle of winter when this finally comes out...

will be for me :)
I have just discovered 'Winterkälte' and it blew me the fuck away, maybe even more than the self titled.
Also 'Einsamkeit', a bit disappointed with that one but it added to what seems to be a journey that links all the albums together. So now i am intrigue'd to buy them all

All of his releases tend to have a unique take on the same basic ideas. I really enjoy all of them, but definitely listen to the metal ones more often. Kerker was probably the hardest to get into as it has a lot of droning noise washing over the expected black metal, it requires attentive listening, but worth it.

Yeah sounds like Einsamkeit for me, almost like doing a meditation. I'm guessing Kerker is one of the later albums yeah ?

edit: o.k kerker is actually an earlier album, which is good, thought that the albums might be becoming more and and more just a sound, which obviously isn't the case. Get a bit bummed when ya buy and album which is mostly just wind/noise and then about one songs worth of black metal, an album which sounds like it could have been the extra bit at the end of one of the more active albums.

Yeah Kerker is actually from about the middle of the release order. All the songs are black metal, just drowned in noise - but that shouldn't be a problem to someone who already likes PdH. :) I really enjoy it when I have the time to sit and pay attention. I was surprised when I double checked the discography and found it right after the S/T, was going to just say "yeah, that's one of the later ones."

As for Einsamkeit, I already knew it wasn't a metal recording when I got it, but I had to have all the A5s. The other post-Winterkaelte demo, Nacht, has a lot of dark synth sections and some long black metal parts, I'd recommend it. I'm a huge fan so I'd say just get them all, but you can wait on Die Festung if you have to, as that one is also all wind and ambience.

Thanks for the heads up forestcorpse, I have also ordered mine.

As for Einsamkeit, when it first came out I was not to fond of it to be honest, but after a few years of gathering dust I returned to it in the past year and this time it clicked with me how amazing it actually is, maybe even moreso than Die Festung for me. It is an incredible ambient album In my opinion.

From what I gather, Das Tor will be Paysage D'Hiver's last album :( Which if true is will be fucking hard to digest. Well at least he can bow out on a high and knowing he created some very unique music and probably the most crushing atmosphere in the entire metal scene.

Was just looking at buying another album ( ended up getting 'Steineiche' ) and was wondering why some of the albums were so fucking expensive ?

Not necessarily. Apparently there's a bunch of unreleased stuff he's planning to put out.

Will pick my copy up on Friday, looking forward to it!

And I really don't hope this is the last release by Paysage D'Hiver, where is that info from?

I read it in an interview, will try and find the source. I would not be surprised as Darkspace seems to be priority nowadays, plus it has taken him a very long time between this release and the last compared to the steady flow in the past.

Edit - This review also mentions the last album rumour, still trying to find the source!
