Summoning indeed cannot do no wrong. Not even on their demo period. This band has done 2 of my favourite albums of all time (Minas Morgul & Oath Bound) and lots of other worthy releases. Hands down, "Old Mornings Dawn" will be one of the most anticipated releases of 2013 for me.

Yes yes yes, finally a new Summoning!!!
I'm sure they cannot do anything wrong, these guys are among the best!
All their albums (except for the first which is just mediocre) are great, so i'm really looking forward this!

The album title is great, "very summoning". Now I want to listen to the new sample, hopefully it will be released very soon. On the other hand, I expect(and desire) another great cover as the previous one.

Awesome choice for a cover art. For these who want to know it's a painting by George Hetzel entitled Rocky Gorge:

A bit too green for my taste (the borderin' I mean), and the font isn't what I'd call "good" (the g looks like a y); but the painting is great.

'Old Mommys Dawn'?

Other than that, the cover art looks righteous.

Old Mornings Dawn.

Of course, the artwork is amazing and just what one would expect from these guys. I have high hopes for this. Been too long since Oath Bound.

Haha. OMY new Summoniny! I can't fuckiny wait!

Strange that they copied/clone stamped the bottom right side of the picture in Photoshop. Wonder what the hell happened there. Das ist nicht geil! Yeah that font is unfortunate, too. Very nice cover despite all that though. Green palettes serve Summoniny's atmosphere well.

^+1. Can't stop laughing.

Surely, someone must have seen what the font looked like and pointed it out to the band or the label. Good grief. I just know I'll always think of this album as 'Old Mommys Dawn'.

My thoughts exactly. But at least it didn't come off as childish compared to that 'Pinnacle of Bedlam' font

The cover is simply awesome!!!!! if the album is that good...

What they added to the original painting suits perfectly well with the bands style and I really like it. Though the painting itself was enough good to be the cover without any change.

Hopefully Napalm will release the official teaser very soon, cant wait!!!

I'm very excited about this album actually. The artwork looks wonderful, excellent choice. But I have a slight nitpicky thing about the title. Shouldn't the title be possessive? Old Morning's Dawn?

Look! A forest was just picked for an album cover of a black metal band.

(Sorry, I had to.)

It looks nice though. Looking forward to this release.

Not necessarily... it's still grammatically correct the way it is. :mindblow:

Statements like this always make me wonder: How does this work exactly? What's the logic here? I like later Summoning very much, but still, titles and artwork are nothing. Knowing them early, knowing them late, I don't care. They have no bearing on the quality of the music that is to be found on the album.

I'm guessing that 'dawn' is being used as a verb, i.e. 'the old mornings will dawn'.

Anyway, super stoked for this. Oath Bound was a masterpiece.

Nah, no logic, just bold anticipation here. I'm well aware that the 'chance' I'm talking about has nothing to do with scientific probability.

Ah yes, this makes sense. I'd still prefer my version. :P

And I agree with whoever said the font wasn't too good. It really isn't, I don't know why they chose that font, it's not all that legible. And the g looks a lot like a y. But just more nitpicky stuff I guess. I expect the album to be very good and I'm looking forward to it.

That's not entirely true either. One can generally anticipate a definite sellout or a styleshift album coming up based on odd song titles, whereas traditional songtitles imply a traditional style. It's not infallible, but tends to hold true.

Well, the logic good cover or title equal good album has worked for me in an amazing percentage. Yes, there is no a logic reason to explain this, but sometimes the cover can show you if the band is going to maintain the style or change it.

Let me give you a good example, Draconian. They were making awesome covers and then they released their third album, when I saw the mediocre cover I immediately thought that the album was going to be a disappointment, I was expecting a more austere and “dry” album, and it was exactly like that.

I think what people were saying about Umskiptar when the first cover was unleashed holds true in this thread. Just throw some woods on a cover and metalheads will eat it up haha. It's a nice enough cover, probably fits the music, it works...but there's nothing exemplary about it.

That painting looks like the kind of thing that would be on one of those calendars that only old women buy.

But of course its automatically superior to every digital painting ever made, no matter how detailed, evocative or well composed because FUCKING TREES.

I'm sure the album will be quite good though.

Well, yes and no. The first cover of Umskiptar was not an generic landscape cover(though I love them), it was a 19th century painting and it was beautiful, I showed this cover to some friends who dont like metal and almost all of them liked it very much. Sadly it was not the definitive cover for whatever reason. :(

New update on Summoning's official site:

Quote:
1/19/2013

We have finished all vocals and choirs for the new album. This means that we've slowly come to an end now. Until the end of the month we have to finalize the sound, the booklet and the two bonus songs. This time we also have an English speaker who contributed with some spoken words for two songs. At the end of this month, we'll give the master CD to Napalm records and fix the release-date which probably will be in March or April.

March or April? Damn, I was hoping for February. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. :metal:

super excited, but I hope it's better than Oath Bound, which Land of the Dead aside (probably my favourite summoning track) was way sub-par compared to Mortal Heroes. Overall, pumped and eagerly awaiting a new release by them. At least a bit of it's gonna rule.
