Firewind - Hands Of Time

This band has gone so downhill since their really early works. So boring and generic... sounds exactly like every other modern PM band. I really appreciate Dynazty more after hearing stuff like this, as they do this style with so much more energy and character and passion, and the songs are just better written.

Father John Misty - Pure Comedy

Really liking this one. Fun, odd, poetic lyrics and bleak, folksy pop music. Great artist. New album should be awesome.

Today in the car: Immolation - Unholy Cult

After much listening, I'm really trying to like this album, but I just can't. It pains me to say this, but I think this album is mediocre. This is definitely the stylistic turning point for Immolation. There is nothing similar between this and Close To A World Below. I guess the album is okay since it has some great moments, but overall, it's not very good. I might get rid of my copy in the future.

Gammacide - Victims of Science
Sepultura - Schizophrenia
Artch - Another Return

Gammacide is someof the fastest thrash I've ever heard, and Schizophrenia is easily Sepultura's masterpiece in my mind. Artch is a criminally underrated power metal band.

Lamb Of God - Beating On Death's Door

Overall probably the most fun Lamb Of God song to date with its insane combo of speed, aggression and those grooves.

Sacrament is interestingly placed in Lamb Of God's discography. The band was getting closer and closer to full on Pantera worship in their musical style. New American Gospel was Deathgrind with Groove Metal combo. As The Palaces Burns was a Pantera, Slayer, and Metalcore combo and each sequential album increased the Pantera grooves into the sound before going all out with the Thrashy Groove sounds on Wrath and Resolution.

Firewind - Back on the Throne

Huh, the rest of these songs are pretty cool actually, better than the lame first track by a lot. These are actually catchy and energetic.

This is actually better than most of their stuff since the albums with Stephen Frederick, as most of their career since has been a long slow slide into mediocrity - really surprising that this doesn't suck ass, actually.

Firewind - Between Heaven and Hell

This still sounds cool - nice, rocking, energetic power metal.

That albums tails off a bit around the instrumental, but I really like it. Almost every chorus is good.

Desultory - Enslaved

The melody...

Try their first two albums if you haven't, those are definitely worth hearing.

Liege Lord - Eye of the Storm (Master Control, vinyl)

Working from home today so I've got the best and loudest background noise ever. Just recently got this on vinyl, the first press from Metal Blade. It completes my Liege Lord collection, which is always a fucking rad feeling. I'm in the minority that prefers their early D&D metal to Master Control, but this thing still rules so hard. As a friend once put it "Too muscular to put its arms down...". Killer record, great song.

Damn this album crushes! I bought it after listening to only two songs. My first purchase of 2017, well worth it.

Hypocrisy - Into The Abyss

Listened to this one twice today, and it was unsurprisingly very good. Hypocrisy hasn't disappointed me so far, but I haven't listened to all their albums yet. The classic Swedish buzzsaw guitar tone makes the songs sound seriously vicious. It's probably my second favourite out the four Hypocrisy albums I own.

Gotta agree with that actually. It's probably their best song and easily their most tragically overlooked. Shame the last two albums have been pure autopilot.
