Psychotic Waltz - Out Of Mind

Gorgeous, insane, bizarre, dark prog album. Love it.

Strapping Young Lad - City

I never get tired of this album. It's just pure frustration in musical form. I've said in the past that I know I won't truly be over my own problems until I can listen to this album and no longer relate to it, but now that my life is so much better in pretty much every respect I can't help but think that was an incorrect assessment. This is a nostalgic throwback to the moments in my life when I had the least control of myself and my emotions, but it's actually a worthwhile revisit if only for the human element involved. This still sums up my entire high school experience, uncontrollable temper and bitter disappointment with life and all. I sold all of my CDs a few years ago when I was flat broke, but I'll always remember that the lyrics were included for every song in the booklet, and the lyrics for Room 429 were:

"This is a Cop Shoot Cop cover
They're a great band
Go buy all of their albums"

Sumerlands - S/T

Finally picked this up. Will make my top 10 most likely.

It made mine. Such a neat album.

Lorraine Cross - "At Close Range"

This probably is on my top 10 now. I sent mine in too early, as this makes my top 10 in the final spot, beating that cool Spiritus Mortis by a hair. I'm surprised at how well these guys do their thing. Kickass power/thrash/speed Metal Church-y Judas Priest-y metal with a funny, angry French singer that just kicks ass. The first song really doesn't do the rest of these songs justice. Great album, with only two slip ups.

Buckethead - Feathers

Totally insane experimental thrashy heavy metal that rules so hard. One of my favorites from the 20's series. Also, if y'all are interested, Big B is doing another $2 sale. Every pike - just 2 bucks each. A steal if you ask me.

Symphony X - "Of Sins and Shadows"

I still have yet to understand the hype surrounding the vastly inconsistent Divine Wings of Tragedy, but I also find "Of Sins and Shadows" and "Eyes of Medusa" to be two of the best songs SX has ever composed.

I love black metal that uses just a bit of melody.

Matthias Steele - Father Has Risen

Freak Kitchen - (Saving Up For An) Anal Bleach

This band can be really weird in the best way possible. And a whole lot of fun.

Been listening to this NON-STOP for the past few weeks. Absolutely incredible album. It's dangerously closing in on top 20 territory. Anyone interested should totally snag that CD reissue. It's so worth it; it's a quality press as well as the album being priceless in and of itself.

Buckethead - Jettison

Unstoppable. Killer multi-part song from one of the absolute best Bucky albums

Ohen - Mortal Man

Some pretty solid melodic/symphonic/eclectic black metal from Slovakia.

Ravencult - Merciless Reprisal

This whole fucking album is just awesome as hell and makes me want to go on some kind of rampage. What kind of rampage is unclear, but rampage I must! Definitely in my top 2-3 albums of 2016.

Sabbat - Blood for the Blood God

This is a great tune, but FUCK why couldn't it be included on a reissue or something as a bonus? It's currently only exclusively available on a flexi-disc from a White Dwarf magazine from 1987 which sounds like complete and total ass. I'm sure even a mint copy wouldn't sound that great, either. I'd love to hear a proper transfer of this song to a format that isn't essentially musical paper.

Pantera- Yesterday Don't Mean Shit

This riff under the chorus is so good.

Iron Maiden - Die With Your Boots On

Revisiting this record for the first time in maybe half a year. This was my first Iron Maiden album, and the first metal album in my collection; could be blamed for getting me head-over-heels into this stuff. I still think it's weaker than the others, but if anyone catches me doggin' on it, you should tell me to shut up.

Oranssi Pazuzu - Varahtelija

One of the best of the year. Each song has something new to offer but the last three tracks in particular step it up again, making the album back-loaded to buggery, but I feel it works this way. Fantastic journey.

Yeah that EP is really excellent. I'm stoked for their upcoming EP too. Ronnie posted on FB that he was mixing one of the songs for it a few hours ago. :D

They are indeed! If you sign up for their newsletter, you get entered in a raffle to win a copy of it. (I'm already signed up and hardly EVER get any emails, so it's not like they spam you or anything.) (If you enter and win, you owe me. ;) )

For a pile of slop, that guitar tone is fantastic.

Thread about the upcoming album by these guys got me to finally check them out properly. This is pretty great, I like it a bit more than Here In After, which I listened to earlier.

"The Kingdom"- Iron Fire.

Nothing special, but at least it's entertaining. I'll always take this type of cheesy but badass, chunky meat and potatoes type of power metal any day over the overbearing melodies of groups like Blind Guardian or Sonata Arctica.
