Vinterland - Welcome My Last Chapter

Really dope melosweblack. Very somber, yet icily majestic.

Kvist - For Kunsten Maa Vi Evig Vike

Really quite something. I don't even know what to compare this to.

Pearl Jam - Garden

This song takes me back to the last semester of high school, where I had some seriously sorrowful days. That's when I was into grunge and slowly transitioning to metal. But man, this song gives me the feels and makes my eyes water up. The song is great, and so are Ten and Vs., but the emotions that I feel when listening to them aren't so great. Of course, some of the songs aren't depressing and deep, but "Black", "Garden", "Release", and "Indifference" are powerful beyond belief.

Edit: I guess the song moved me too much, but I would also like to add that metal made me a much happier individual and it has completely redefined who I am. Thank you, heavy metal. :headbang: Now, enough of this pussy shit...

I haven't listened to this one in ages. I may need to dust it off and play it, since your description is apt. :)

I don't have any actual songs that pop out which take me back to my high school days, but they were some tough times for me, too. I think it's healthy to reminisce about your youth, even if it's not good. :)

Deeds of Flesh - Portals to Canaan

Super focused tech death. Can't wait for their next release...whenever that will be.

Liege Lord - Freedom's Rise

I heard Master Control about 4-5 years ago and really enjoyed it, god knows why I'm only just listening to more Liege Lord now. Less different than I was expecting from what I'd heard, a couple of tracks I think aren't as good as the rest ('Amnesty', 'Vials of Wrath'), but this is really damn good stuff.

They sound like a Swedish death metal band doing black metal covers and adding their "touch" to it. Love it

Gillian Welch - The Way It Goes

One of my favorite country songs. Charming, bleak and lyrical. Great tune.

SWARRRM - 20 Year Chaos

A bit divergent from what I normally listen to, but sometimes there's certain moods where stuff like this is the only thing I feel like listening to.

"Beyond The Grave" -
Celebration

These guys rip. Enormity has gotten quite a bit of attention as far as the underground scene goes as have Priesticide Lust. I don't get why these guys haven't, this is quality stuff here.

Dire Straits - 'Brothers in Arms'

I get that this is like this band's 'Paranoid' - an overplayed as hell song. I know it's cliché to call it their greatest... but it is their greatest song.

Music genres (black metal, death metal "doom," etc.) are not proper nouns and should not be capitalized. :-P :nazi:

Annihilator - No Zone

Set the World on Fire is a barrel of fun if you can get over the fact that it barely thrashes.

Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos.

Why didn't I listen to this album before? Already like it more than Those Once Loyal.

Oh buddy, it is the quintessential Bolt Thrower album. It smashes Thos Once Loyal's teeth down to its peanut sized testes.

Stratovarius - Stand My Ground

Strato thread gave me the urge. I feel sorry for my neighbours, I can't fucking help but belt this shit out. Now time to go cook and sing to Strato at the top of my lungs like a fuckin' weirdo

Overkill - The Electric Age
Talk of the upcoming Overkill album has me revisiting their current era. I still think this is the weakest of the three so far, but it's a bit better than I remember it being. They've really narrowed in on one type of crazy thrashing song they're extremely good at at the expense of variety, but honestly that's fine with me since I never cared for their doomy songs anyway. As awful as I think they were from I Hear Black through Immortalis, the eras bookending that stretch are both still well worth listening.

Strapping Young Lad - City

Well, all of the things I've heard about this group must be true - this is absolutely horrendous. Some of the worst garbage I've ever heard :ugh:

It had the same impact on me, but with a different record:

Stratovarius - Infinity

This album rules so much. I'm on the second last song and there hasn't been a bad one yet. Even this lengthy 9-minute song is pretty epic throughout. I'm going to revisit more older Stratovarius this weekend because most of the time I just go for one of their newest 4 records.

That is without a doubt one of my all time favorite albums :(

I think my attachment to it has a lot to do with my connection to the album when my depression was at its worst, because it's such an accurate representation of what it's like to hate yourself and just lash out frustratedly at the world before turning inwards on yourself and everything just collapsing.

Is it really? I guess you never know! It does seem like a pained album, which is probably why it's grating on me so bad. I've got some weird connections with albums too, like with Buckethead's stuff (Colma, A Real Diamond in the Rough, Shadows Between the Sky) and anything by Primus, which was oddly the band that got me into music and bass in the first place.

I try not to pimp my own stuff to horribly often but my re-review that I posted on my blog but didn't move to MA really delves into why the album is so monumental to me. If nothing else it might give you some insight as to why/how somebody can relate so much to the album.

This pretty much fulfills the same role to me that City does to BH.

I'll check it out and maybe give the album another shot. Maybe.

np - Rush - "Working Man"

Those who say Rush took a while to get good need only check this out. The solo section in the middle is still legendary.

Except SYL aren't terrible.

Fates Warning - Theories of Flight
Excellent album, their best since I dunno when. Perhaps not as good as the Arch/Matheos album but damn it's solid.

Very nice album, I agree. I still haven't gotten around to the Arch/Matheos album yet, but Theories Of Flight is up there with their 80's classics.
