Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die

Fantastic post-rock album, really something I should listen to more. That deep bass tone is really something
Was listening to Elderwind's the Magic of Nature before this while I took a walk.

Urkaos - Rehearsal IX

The guy behind all of these projects is really talented. All of his bands are good shit.

Behemoth - O Father O Satan O Sun!

How could I go more than a couple days without listening to one of Behemoths albums? Recently I've been cycling through The Apostasy, Evangelion, and The Satanist, but occasionally I go back to an older album or a live one. Behemoth is one of those bands that get noticeably better with every album.

Noticeably better? I can't agree with that, since I like Demigod more than The Apostasy, to name one, but Behemoth are a quality band. The Satanist was a little different - not surprising since Nergal's cancer - but I still like it. I do need to listen to it more to fully appreciate it.

Al-Namrood - Diaji Al Joor

I'm deciding on the pecking order this one is at compared to the others. Hard to tell at the moment, but it sounds exactly like what you would expect from Al-Namrood: heavily Middle-Eastern influenced mid-paced black metal.

Batushka -Yekteniya from Poland.

Interesting stuff, Black metal mixed with orthodox sacred music.

Iron Maiden - For the Greater Good of God

I'd have to put this in my top 5 Maiden songs. I love when the guitar kicks in right after the intro and Dickinson starts wailing.

Kekal - Crossroads

This is still my favorite song on the whole album. It's really pretty simple, but the songwriting is just so great. The usage of electronic elements and the vocaloid are absolutely stellar.

Not sure if playing this while having a headache is a particularly stellar idea...

^Well they say you can fight fire with fire.

Kekal - The Unwritten

My second favorite song on the new album. It's absolutely dark and haunting.

It worked! :P

NP: Gargoyle "奇獣"

Their 2013 release... not too bad actually. Not sure if I prefer their latest one over this by much either.

^I find that one to be sorta inconsistent. Some tracks are fantastic while others aren't quite so much. SHIT嫉妬SHIT is amusing though.

D - 桜花咲きそめにけり

The chorus is just too catchy. The solo section is pretty nice too.

One Thousand Years of Rain from (2015) Enslaved - In Times.
This album will get more listening time.

The Ruins of Beverast - Soil of the Incestuous

This seriously sounds like this comes from another world. So overwhelming and dark.

Manilla Road - Sword of Hate

The Blessed Curse got way too little attention. Hellroadie's vocals are a bit lukewarm, but Mark sounds great and everything else about the album is first rate. Great, snappy songs and cool guitarwork.

Skywings "Sky Legacy"

Lightweight power metal with a terrible drum sound. For some ungodly reason, I actually don't mind this.

Sigh - Hail Horror Hail

In my opinion, the best black metal album that ever came out of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Zero Nine - IX

Standard quality hard rock. Always seems to be the case with this band. Recomended to everyone who has soft spot for Finnish heavy bands.

Still waiting for the new Battle Beast to arrive.

Immortal - Circling Above in Time Before Time

Never really connected as much with Battles as other Immortal albums (other than Sons/ASF). Still decent but definitely my least favourite of pre-Sons Immortal.

Iron Maiden - The Book of Souls

I have to say, I'm not impressed with this album so far. I wasn't impressed with the previous album either. Maiden might be out of creative juice at this point.

Austere - This Dreadful Emptiness

I'm not sure if the vocals are standard fare when it comes to DSBM, but if they are, I have a feeling I'm really going to enjoy DSBM.

Anton Bruckner - Symphony No. 7

Conducted by Karl Bohm and performed by the Vienna Philharmonic. A lot of Bruckner's symphonies leave me scratching my head -- but here, everything works. The second movement is particularly gorgeous, and never fails to leave me in tears.

Strangely enough, I think the drumming is my favorite part of this.

Agalloch - The Melancholy Spirit

I've been on an Agalloch binge recently which is very fitting for a variety of reasons. The biggest reason is they're just that damned good.

Aw man, it's been ages since I listened to Pale Folklore. Time was I used to have both Pale Folklore and The Mantle on repeat fairly regularly. I may need to remedy that deficit!

Act of Defiance - Legion of Lies

There is absolutely nothing unique about this band other than the fact that they have two ex-Megadeth members.

You could just turn your TV to a channel with shit signal instead.

NP: Panopticon - Autumn Eternal

Good album but really wish it was more 'Panopticon' like. Needs more folky stuff going on. Really hope there's another album with bluegrass in it from him at some point.

Same here.
(1995) Immortal - Battles In The North is too (?) chaotic?
And Panopticon should try to get back the emotivity.

(1999) Immortal - At The Heart Of Winter will be the introduction to Black Metal to a friend of mine.

Dir en grey - MACABRE -揚羽ノ羽ノ夢ハ蛹-

This has got to be the band's most underrated album. It's really ambitous and pretty weird, but extremely well-written. It's probably my favorite pre-Uroborus album from the band.

God, I love weirdo black metal.

I chuckled... but you do have a point. The fact that this kind of stuff has an elitist fanbase makes it all the more baffling to me.

Finally got internet back after a month without it (moving is a pain), so my first order of business is to tackle the hyped albums to prepare for my annual year end list to make sure I missed nothing.

Just finished Sarpanitum - Blessed Be My Brothers:
Loved it, insanely blistering death metal with almost intangible traces of black metal and a really unique sense of melody. The contrast between the pummeling rhythm parts and the squealy leads and harmonies is fantastic. Absolute home run of an album, gonna have to spin it several more times before the year is up to see if it holds on repeated listens, but I'm optimistic after the first listen.

And almost done with Horrendous - Anareta:
The Chills bored me to tears and I remember nothing about Ecdysis other than it was a victim of ludicrous hype that I don't think it even came close to touching, but I'm actually kinda starting to understand why they're so popular in the underground after listening to this one. Kinda like Sarpanitum up there, it has a very esoteric sense of melody and it manages to sidestep a lot of death metal cliches instead of bunny hopping over them and turning around to point and shout DID YOU SEE ME AVOID THAT CLICHE AREN'T I CLEVER?? like the last album seemed to do. It doesn't seem like best of the year material, but it's solid, and that's a lot more than I was expecting based on my feelings towards the last two albums.

Huntress - Eight of Swords

What a waste this band is. Pretty good music ruined by awful vocals. I'll stick with A Sound of Thunder instead.

Kamelot - The Black Halo

This is some really unique power metal. It's definitely a mix of heavy, progressive, and symphonic metal. It's a great album to listen to if you need a break from the usual speed/power metal from Europe. This is the first Kamelot album I'm listening to, and I'm really impressed with how unusual this sounds. No cheese to be found here!
