Fantastic DSBM, which is a weird thing to say. Most bands in the genre usually miss the mark for me but this is spot on.

Do I have something by them?

Black Horizons from (1993) Dissection - The Somberlain (2004 Remaster).
Slower than I remembered?!?

Keldian - The Last Frontier

I really need to listen to some more Keldian. Does anyone know if they're going to release a new album at some point?

it sounds like a son between norwegian black metal and the "artsier" enigmatic rock acts like Univers Zero and Slint.. the idea of mixing those sounds it's so great.

A band I have read about a little and never really checked out. Have to remind myself to get some of their stuff.

Nile - Black Seeds Of Vengeance

Probably my second favourite album of theirs behind Annihilation Of The Wicked. The murky, cold and suffocating production on this helps a lot

This one is good, although I can't listen to it all the time. When I do, though, it's a good trip.

Monogono - Amuk

It's about 32 degrees today, so staying indoors with music. :) Amuk is crazy metal that I can't pigeon-hole. Some parts death, some parts thrash, some parts hardcore. Very unique and well worth a listen.

This sounds interesting. Thanks for the heads up

Nightingale - Shadowman

Is all Nightingale this good? The reviews seem to put Alive as the least liked on the site.

Not impressed.

Put my metal on shuffle this morning:

Coffins - Stairway To Torment

Ugh! Gnarly as fuck! Coffins songwriting chops have certainly improved over time.

Immolation - Serving Divinity

This latest Immo record hasn't really stuck with me. The songs are... fine but nothing really memorable compared to their previous releases.

Sorry to hear that, really is one of my favorites from that brand of black metal.

NP: Behemoth - And the Forests Dream Eternally

Glad I went and checked out old Behemoth after just listening to their newer stuff for the longest time.

Nightfell - Darkness Evermore (2015)

Not sure what kids call this these days - to me it sounds like metallic dbeat - but I love it. Gloomy, raw, rich.

Rhapsody - Dawn Of Victory

Remember hearing this and taping it off the radio and loving it. I didn't know who it was. Then while in Japan, my host brother's friend gave me the album as a gift :D Cheesy, pompous power metal just the way I love it

Tyr - Hold the Heathen Hammer High

This is some good blackened pirate-influenced viking metal ( :oh shit: ). In all seriousness, does anyone know if Tyr is going to release a new album? They have kind of fallen off of the face of the Earth.

Great song. The band are hit and miss with me. Not heard anything about new releases though

Lost Cherrees - State of the Nation

I've never been much of a fan of super English sounding Anarcho bands but this song's super catchy.

Xaos "No Fear"

Kinda weird hearing post-punk riffs thrown in the middle of speedy power metal. Works though.

This is easily one of the best ballads I've ever heard. It's just downright beautiful.

Guahaihoque - Along A Path

There needs to be more of this type of stuff. Death/thrash with South American woodwinds. They didn't release anything after this single 6 song album :(

While there's obvious dbeat influences in there, and even some black metal, the doom/death is definitely the more prominent. It's one of my favorites so far this year.

NP : Djevel - Saa Raa Og Kald

Very solid Norwegian black metal

Nightbringer - Lantern of Eden's Night

Maelstrom-like black metal with epic scope, rich underlining texture and some amazing vocal work on top of everything.

Edit: Holy shit, that opening riff. Gorgeous.

Hmm.. I've always found ÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞ to bit a bit overrated. It's an fine album, but not more than I'd rate a 7/10. I can definitely get behind the first three albums, but they kind of lose me after that.

Slaegt - Beautiful and Damned

God this EP slays. Love the unique, traditional metal approach to a lot of the riffs, and the solos are glorious. This band has kicked ass since their demo, but I can see them becoming a black metal staple with a couple albums under their belts.

Iron Fire - Kill For Metal

A metal band named after metal singing about metal. I absolutely love Martin Steen's nasally vocals.

Current 93 - A Song For Douglas After He's Dead

Been loving Current 93's acoustic stuff lately. Been on current rotation

I forgot where I first heard of this band, but I've been getting back into them a bit.

Dragged Into Sunlight/Gnaw Their Tongues - Strangled with the Cord

Been listening to this since the full album stream came out, that riff at 3:10 brings out something fierce. This collaboration is demented from the first fucking track. They've done it again.

Baroness - Blue Record

Finally got my hands on a copy of this, checking it out for the first time. Six years late, but oh well. It'll be interesting to see how this album grows on me over multiple listens.

While Heaven Wept - To Wander the Void

Killer epic power/doom metal. The arrangements are bold and surprising and the vocals are amazingly good.

High Inquisitor Woe - Lady Saliva

Over 20 minutes long but they keep the song engaging throughout. Talented disciples of Reverend Bizarre.

Barren Earth - The Devil's Resolve. That main riff on The Rains Begin is so damn catchy I can't help but break into a jig once the song comes on.

Graveland - Thurisaz

I might give the guys in Graveland too much credit here, but the lyrics remind me of the last part of Plato's "Allegory of the Cave".

Anonymous - Sultaniyegah Sirto

So I ended up finding some random Turkish CD that appeared to be classical music and figured why not give it a listen. Apparently this guy named Cihat Aşkın is a Turkish violin virtuoso (he has his own Wikipedia page in Turkish) and it's one of his releases. As for the actual music, it turned out to be wicked cool Turkish dances using traditional folk melodies which seem to have been written some time in the 20th century. It's a pretty unexpected find at any rate, but it's very nice.

Angra - Secret Garden

This is my only experience with Angra to date, so beware that my comments might be a bit off base. I don't know if Angra is a "heavy" band, but this album comes off as really heavy for some reason. I've seen people complain about Lione's pronunciation, but his vocals (including pronunciation) on Secret Garden are top notch. Overall, it's a pretty good album, including The Police cover.
