Perfect track to motorboat Kat Dennings...well, if you get the chance!

They're fun live but I did NOT listen to any of their albums.

My first love with Bathory. Bought it some 15 years ago and liked it instantly. The muddy sounds just work for its advantage. The Woodwoman still brings tear to my eye.

Nice!

This new album is insane. This and a six pack of dogfish head is how I'm gonna end a long shitty day in the disc mines.

I will check this out even if I didn't specially like (2012) Cattle Decapitation - Monolith Of Inhumanity.

The Doldrums from (2003) Iva Davies, Christopher Gordon & Richard Tognetti - Master and Commander - The Far Side of the World OST.
That's like sailing!

Seeds in Barren Fields - A Gospel of the Flesh

Damn, this is amazing. Was expecting to hear some more straightforward and easily noticeable crust elements, but the music works like a charm. Loving the bass pulsing underneath the chugging on this one (and they cleverly layer this with tremolo melodies, which also develop so that there's a contrast between a more soothing, maybe major scale phrases, and more emphasized dissonance).

Symphony X - Incantations of the Apprentice

This is waaaay groovier and more Pantera-esque than either of the following two albums. Vocals are more melodic though, so I guess that's why people don't talk about this album in the same way?

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Mouth of Ghosts

It's melodic and experimental songs like this that really make think this band are the spiritual successors to Faith No More. Fantastic stuff.

Fen - Carrion Skies

I put this on and fell asleep,, but in a good way.
Beautiful atmospheric black metal interspersed with lush acoustic and post rock sections. It still has some wtf moments like their albums usually do though

Absu - Manannán (from the Eyes of Ioldanach EP). This version destroys the Tara one; the production, vocals and overall pace are superior. I wish Tara had that production! Also Proscriptor's drumming is incredible and probably my fav performance of him ever.

Octaviagrace - Hardenbergia

Man, I really love the songwriting on this little EP. I've listened to this thing plenty of times by now, and yet I'm still picking new, minor details. Like how the bass will play a little lead that the guitar will repeat and vary a couple of measures later. The amount of musical frills in this thing is absurdly dense for just 25 minutes.

Helloween - Kill It

Ah, the glory of top tier Helloween songs. Gambling With the Devil is easily my favourite of the Deris era so far and almost certainly always will be. The crunchingly heavy riffs and balls out attitude of this song sum up the whole excellent experience.

Rage "The Soundchaser Archives"

At the time of release, didn't release this would mark the end of the Smolski-era. Some ok songs here, and it includes some rare bonus tracks. Unfortunately, no bonus tracks from the GUN era were included, for whatever reason. The demos for "Spiritual Awakening" and "Another Kind of Madness" are pretty interesting - much different/heavier than the album versions.

Is that in the vein of his Passio? I checked out a couple more of his works (Vater Unser and another I can't remember) and they didn't floor me the same way. I really like the minimalism of Passio. Very sparse and dramatic.

Summoning - Old Mornings Dawn

I keep hoping this album grows on me, but there really are only a couple good songs.

Iron Maiden - En Vivo

You know, with modern Maiden (bar BNW) I think I like the live renditions more than the studio ones. Bass is pretty audible on this - I've heard complaints about it being too quiet with the studio versions. I've never noticed though, so I'll have to pay attention next time I play those.

Hmm, KP is more droning, brooding, and continuous. Very monastic and archaic-sounding. As I recall Passio has more of an operatic, high-dynamic composition, but I do need to listen to a lot of his stuff again, it's been quite a while and he's got a lot of really psychologically heavy, demanding material to explore.

Kimmo Kuusniemi Band - Moottorilinnut

Got this on original LP. Paid quite a huge amount of it (had to have it in other format than cd-r) only to find out it was released as a cheap cd year later. Now I got an important piece of Finnish metal history in my hands, atleast. Still it's not some stupid status symbol. I've played it like hell, and still love it.

Autopsy - Tourniquets, Hacksaws and Graves

Their past two albums have received fairly mixed reactions from fans of the genre, and I'm struggling to see why. I think they are very good.
Then again, maybe i'm just a fan boy.
Either ways, Chris Reifert is a beast.

Enmity - Rotted Divinity

Apart from morbid curiosity induced by MA reviews, there's really no other reason to listen to Enmity. It's even more bland and stupid than one would suppose judging from the negative reviews (in my defense, this is actually the first time I put this on).

Testament - Electric Crown

A thrash classic . Dark subject matter in lyrics , strangely uplifting riffs.

:np: Noctum- The Revisit

Solid Mercyful Fate-ish heavy metal with a slight rock tint. Pretty good stuff. Not as compelling as Portrait, Trial, or In Solitude, but it does the trick. Gritty and made with an evil atmosphere.

I think Autopsy are the kind of band where this is a normal thing. A lot like Darkthrone (who get a lot of inspiration from Autopsy), they're fairly consistent, as far as the quality of their records, so while their "best" stuff might be behind them, they never release anything terrible -- and as such, if you're a fan, there's a TON to like. They also don't seem to care about current trends in metal, so chances are, if you like one album by them, you're going to like many.

Totally agree man.

NP : Triumphant - Herald the Unsung

Intense and very catchy black/thrash with a healthy dosage 80's sounding heavy metal. No weak song on this album

Incredible prog rock from Chile. These veterans have been playing this stuff for 50 years.

Killer. I need to get Johnny Touch and some Stargazer stuff too, get more of this sort of metal brilliance.

Woods of Desolation - As the Stars

It has an ethereal beauty that's warm and chilly at the same time - befitting the title. I've been looking for something like this all week - I think I'm just going to go immerse myself in the rest of their discography now..

King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon

Beautiful. The atmosphere created by the full mellotron and acoustic guitar is just wow. And the vocals! Oh man, the vocals... only a heart of stone would not be touched by them! One of the best rock bands for sure.

Forbidden - Infinite, off Twisted Into Form

I've had this band's comeback album (Omega Wave) for years, and while I always liked it, I somehow never got around to checking their old stuff in depth. 'Tis pretty good. Crunchy, yet slick, thrash with a technical angle and great vocals.

Evil Killer - Fight (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snH3Zc1OuxE)

Near flawlessly executed speed metal that doesn't want to be anything other than speed metal. I nabbed the tape from Swords and Chains records. These kids just get it. Driving rhythms, passionate believable vocals, a twinge of classiness here and there. I'm not sure what they went on to sound like but this EP is beautiful.

Manowar - Louder Than Hell

Just pure no bullshit metal album. I've given Karl Logan hard time before, but he's really a decent guitarist and a sympathetic fellow. The first 3 songs, Number 1 and Power, all great stuff. And the rest isn't bad either.

Agalloch - You Were But a Ghost In My Arms

Despite this album being my favourite of their discography when I first started listening to them roughly nine years ago it's had a slight downturn in my estimations over the years. Around half the album still seems damn near flawless and the overall atmosphere is wonderful but the overly drawn out first proper song and some of the short neofolk interlude pieces really drag it down as far as my present taste is concerned.

Still, songs like this one are just incredible. Agalloch at their folky, rousing and epic best.

Coroner - Death Cult demo

feat Tom G Warrior on vocals, and a guitar sound that is pretty similar to Celtic Frost (understandable, given that these guys were CF roadies). Not overly-fast thrash, but with pretty tech-y leads and solos.
