Those synths, man. Oh man, like, those synths

The demo was cool but to be honest the synths weren't what stuck out to me. It was more just the overall oppressive atmosphere and the riffwork. Wish the song titles were at all pronouncable too.

NP: Gamma Ray - Land of the Free

Everyone needs some cheese in their life from time to time, and Gamma Ray provide it better than most.

Queued:

Unanimated - Ancient God of Evil (first listen)

One of those classic albums that for some reason I've never gotten around to listening to.

Sacrifice - Soldiers of Misfortune

Canadian thrash always gets overlooked compared to the stuff from the US, which is a shame, because for the most part it's better. I prefer Forward to Termination over this one, but you can't listen to the same album all the time.

Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera

Haven't listened to this one since I was just getting into BG, having only heard Battalions of Fear and Somewhere Far Beyond back then; I was really underwhelmed. I still vastly prefer the speed metal stuff but I feel I should give this a second chance in the light of the rest of their discography.

Death Breath - Death Breath

Holy shit, these guys rock harder than the majority of all the Swede-alikes in the scene today. Fuck yes this is good.

Kataklysm - "Caged In"

Don't know how I feel about this album. Oh, and that drum sound is just annoying.

Just awesome.

That album is underrated. It's a really cool heavy metal album. Good stuff.

Sodom - Hellfire

Maybe it's just me, but I like Sodom's more recent albums more than their older ones.

Cockney Rejects - Lethal

Paradise Lost - Embers Fire

This song couldn't have a better chorus. Simple amazing stuff. The entire album isn't great, as it's a bit too long for my taste but revisiting this was a good idea. I mean, this album sounds bleak yet has its moments of totally rocking out.

I'm with you too.

Caradhras from (2013) Summoning - Old Mornings Dawn (Limited Deluxe Edition).

Uruk-Hai - Shadow Of The Orcs

Got the 4x tape Orcish Battle Hymns boxset in the mail recently and listening to them all the way through again. Battle ambient at it's finest. Shame it was removed from the archives.

Nice! Mine is Old Mornings Dawn and I don't get the praise for The White Tower.

With Fire And Sword (Bonus Track) from (2013) Summoning - Old Mornings Dawn (Limited Deluxe Edition).

Cruciamentum - Convocation of Crawling Chaos

Vicious, pounding, no frills death metal. You know the drill. Nice mix of evil, menacing tremolo picking and some hefty chunked riffage scattered here and there. The production is really perfect for this style, not too clean or rough, just right. Had the pleasure of seeing these guys live a few weeks back. They pretty much nail their sound when committing themselves to the live ritual as well. :)

Candlemass - Mirror Mirror

Bought the CD online and found the vinyl in a second-hand-shop a few days apart; I'll have to compare later on. Either way, I'm enjoying Ancient Dreams as much as Nightfall thus far, although in fairness, so far it's been pretty much mined from exactly the same vein.

Slugathor - Summoning (The True Face of Evil)

What's there to say about Slugathor that hasn't already been said? I love 'doomy' death metal, and this is one of the bands that made me fall in love with it in the first place. In particular, the twisted melodic leads that are scattered throughout this song are just... perfect.

NP: Nuclear Death - "Oh Father Death, Take Me!"

I got my copy of the boxed set today and can't listen to it yet, so I decided to celebrate by looking up ND material that isn't part of the box set. I was expecting it to seriously suck, because Lori Bravo's solo project music does suck, but wow... it's astonishingly atmospheric and droning. I love it.

Portal are djenting now. DJENTING. THAT THING AT 0:29 IS SO A DJENT RIFF DEAR GOD THE BAND THAT USED TO SOUND LIKE INCANTATION ON ACID ARE PLAYING DJENT RIFFS MASKED BY PORTAL GUITAR TONES FUCK THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness

It's been far too long since I listened to this, the greatest death metal album, perhaps the greatest album ever. These are the perfect vocals for death metal - coherent, yet echoing and resoundingly the essence of death metal.

Imprecation- Theurgia Goetia Summa

album's so great but I kinda wish the mix on the drums was a little more consistent with the kicks. like how they totally disappear in blasts.

Even better than Illud? :-P

Schifosi - Post Genocide
Cool crust punk with interesting semi-melodic guitar work.

Tad Morose - Clearly Insane

WORSHIP YOUR MASTERS! DANCE IN THE FLAMES! :headbang:

Seems to be a bit groovier than the previous Tad Morose albums. Not bad stuff though.

Bathory-Death and resurrection of a Northern son

Utterly amazing a fusion of the old Bathory sound with the epic grandeur of his Viking era material. Its a shame he never lived to make a Nordland III

They are pretty good. Better than most of the female-fronted-retro-hard-rock/doom bands that are popular these days.

Moonlake by Klaus Schulze

I need to fill in my check list of Schulze albums that I've listened to, and there's a giant lack of his modern stuff under my belt.

Terra Tenebrosa- "Through the Eyes of the Maninkari"

Some of the sounds and the overall 'feel' to this song remind me much of "First Prayer", and I quite like that.

But that's the best song on the album (hell, to these ears, it's the only song worth a damn on the album, because it actually has an identity and focus, unlike the rest of the album)... and one of the best songs they ever composed---simply the monstrous album opener this decade's death metal has been searching for--- it's simply their "Higher Coward" but on an incredibly disappointing album, so it sticks out like a sore Cthulhuian appendage...

Just finished the Hellfire´s Dominion of Desaster
My favorite song is Teutonic Steel.
You cannot hear this song to much. The very intro is awesome ..
...and after that song it goes on with the next excellent track of this album.

But now it´s time for Macabre.. I´m excited to see them tonight :-D at the Outbreak Of Evil (Ajz. Bahndamm Wermelskirchen).

Well,

It's preeeetty fucking djenty, man. Sounds like a riff Periphery would use, honestly. The opening riff here sounds pretty djenty too.

You know, for all the guitarist's trolling and general bloated superiority, he doesn't really seem to be capable anymore of writing riffs which would justify his own pretentiousness. :ugh:

NP: Blind Guardian - Battalions of Fear

BG's best and it's not even close. One of the best power/speed metal albums ever made. Every song is at least very good and a couple (Majesty, Wizard's Crown) are perfect.

Queued:

Unsacred - Where the Light Dims EP

I remember this being mediocre crust. It's probably still mediocre crust. Whatever, I'm into second chances.

The Beast - side of the Born to Metalize split

Underrated US heavy metal. Really, if you're at all into trad, you need to check out this band.

Ramlord - Stench of Fallacy

Probably the single best release of the modern blackened crust movement. Their full-length from this year (Crippled Minds, Sundered Wisdom) is very good, but not quite on the same level.

NP: Undergang - Til Doden Os Skiller

One of the better new-OSDM albums. So many of them are just dull and devoid of energy and imagination, but this one has great riffs throughout.

Queued:

Archgoat - Angelcunt (Tales of Desecration) EP

I prefer their full-length stuff - this is just a little too raw for my taste in bestial stuff - but it's a fun listen from time to time.

Liege Lord - Master Control

Liege Lord. 'Nuff said.

Captain Cleanoff - Captain Cleanoff EP (first listen)

Vuvr - Garden of Consciousness

Quality jazz-y death metal, somewhere between the writing of Cynic and the production and aesthetics of Hieronymus Bosch.
