The shirt I was talking about on the previous page basically looks like this:

Image

It's actually long sleeve but has those same tabs where you can roll up the sleeves and button the tabs to prevent the sleeves from rolling back down. Also it's pitch black, not that charcoal color. I think it'll look pretty sweet covered in patches and worn unbuttoned over a band shirt.

Only patched demim or leather are real!!!!! :-D

I decided I didn't need a new vest, I'll just use my old one, I removed all the old patches and I'll discard many of 'em in favour of new ones. I'd like to paint the Ningen-Isu logo though, any idea what kind of paint to use on denim?

I used dylon brand fabric-paint - you just paint it on, iron it into the fabric a little, and I've never ever had any problems with it coming off, even after hand-washing one of my vests. I've heard of people using general purpose acrylic paints with some success too though.

THIS! I don't really like the patched worker shirts, camo vests or hoodies at all. They look awkward to me somehow. Like if you're trying too hard to look different or just can't afford denim or leather haha. I don't mean to offend those who choose to use something else than a denim or leather. To each his own, I suppose.

Thanks for your comment Ancient Sorrow, I'll go shop for some stuff soon. I'll be stencilling that logo!
Image

I started working on my new vest, I decided to re-use my old one instead of getting a new one since it was still in good condition. It's a work in progress, I'll add perhaps 10 other patches to it plus the Ningen-Isu logo I'll draw. Comments and suggestions are of course appreciated! Spot the dog!

I don't really like patched hoodies and camo vests seem really white trash/redneck to me, so those are both a no-go. It has nothing to do with cost, either; I could buy a denim or leather jacket that I could make a kutte with from a thrift store for like $10 at most. The reason I want to do the shirt instead of a vest is just because the vast majority of shows I go to are indoors and it always gets hot as fuck in there, and denim or leather covered in patches on top of other clothes will just make me sweaty as shit. Not all of us live in the frozen northlands of Finland or Canada :P Also I just think it will look cool. I'm not trying to be a special snowflake or anything; I just think it'll look sweet is all.

I think it depends on the person, I've seen many wear the work shirt type vests and it looked awesome on them, but I guess I am a sucker for the patches, I don't really care where it gets sewed on.

I agree on the heat, I wore my vest in the winter and in a hall, it got hot as hell.

Right now I'm working on a leather vest, I also got a black denim one done, with just a backpatch cause I wanted it to stick out.
Anyone tried sewing through faux leather? Do patches stick to it if you iron them on or is it better to just sew it and be done with it?

Does anybody know how to soften your kutte besides wearing it all the time everywhere?

Full leather or denim on top of a shirt with all the patchwork is too hot here in the frozen north lands of Canada as well... I mean, shows are in heated buildings here. Not everything is held in the igloo.

A friend said he smeared horse balm on his leathers, shoes and jacket and it did the job, but I can't say if it's true or not.

Okay I know this isn't a patched vest or jacket but it's something right?!

Image

This thing is over twenty years old. I bought it brand new, and it's been to most gigs with me (only in winter though!!). It's been rained on, sweated in, roughed up against fences and soaked in countless liters of various alcohols  I love this fucking thing. Going to get more badges to adorn it.

New rule: If a band is metal enough for a Mod's battle jacket, they're metal enough to be on the archives.

Metantoine: I really like the In Solitude patch. Awesome back patch as well! I think the colourful patches go really well together with the faded grey denim. I probably wouldn't have used as much red, but of course, it's first and foremost about the bands you want to have on your vest. ;)

I agree. The colour adds to the awesomeness of the jacket. I read in the comments that the backpatch is actually a tshirt cutout. How did you reinforce it on your jacket without making it look like an obvious tshirt cutout? Extra starch?

Edit: typo

My original idea was to use a new black denim vest and use black and red patches but this project got trashed in favour of a reboot of my old vest. Ilwhyan, I'm a colourful guy so it's a good reprensation of me, I'll add my Immolation soon so you'll be happy! Not sure I'll add many stuff to the front though.

Vince: the tshirt material was too thin and used so I used a layer of black fabric to make it stronger. Having a mom who's like a sewing expert will lead to good suggestions and advices.

Lucky guy! :) And that's definitely a neat way to turn old tshirts to backpatches. Fuck, I got a ton of tshirts. Maybe I should explore that option.

Here are my two jackets. I was wearing the one on the left almost daily since I was 17 but I don't think the patch and the "Ceremony" logo got added until I was 19. It's kind of funny I don't really remember why I ended up with Chewbacca, like sure I like Star Wars and I like chewy as character but I never really LOVED him like it might suggest, but anyway that's what my girlfriend painted for me and I think it turned out pretty wicked. After so many years of living in it the thing got pretty gnarly so my old lady finally got fed up with it and made me the black one on the right for my 23rd birthday last fall. I like the new one a lot but it's just strange not wearing the old one, I could never get rid of it, that would be like getting rid of a part of myself haha.
Image

Just for fun here's some of the original color that survived.
Image

There's nothing interesting on the front of either one. I have patches and was planning on it but then one thing led to another and years went by. :-P

From the Ningen Isu thread:

Aye I saw you mention it here! Great minds and whatnot. It'll be going on this Asia-dedicated piece that currently has nothing on the back and criminally low representation of Japanese artists (patches are hard to come by for Show-Ya, Gorgon and so on, might end up doing those myself too). Best pic I could quickly rustle up:

Still waiting for the inevitable Sabbat patches. the DWTMH BP would look good here.
Check out http://www.hellsvomit.com/ btw. A few Abigail patches and a Mantak patch.
Also the SOD coffin if you want that.

Cheers for the link Bludrayne. Have a very nice Sabbat - Born by Evil Blood patch good to go, 'cause of the pockets on the front though I'm going to have to glue it as well as another. Just haven't got round to doing much with this piece but have some time to pimp it out at the moment. I was considering that SOD - coffin one but already had the circle patch and - not visible in that pic - the Immolating the Son. Abigail, Mantak, Genocide Shrines, Anatomia, Deiphago, Orator - all on the purchase list for when my address is stable
