From a local record shop:

Immolation - Atonement, On CD. Actually pretty good overall. Several strong songs with very lean and concise songwriting. Immolation never dwells and milks any of the good riffs on this album, which are plentiful. The production is nearly perfect, everything is balanced well (the only exception is the vocals might actually be a touch too low, which is a rare complaint). The earlier released song was definitely not the stronger song on the album. That belongs to "The Distorting Light", "When the Jackals Come" and "Epiphany". Although there were many other great songs. Overall quite a good album and definitely a worthy addition to Immolation's impressive catalogue.

I've snagged a few things from discogs over the last month or two. A few already arrived, most I'm still waiting on:

Queensryche - The Warning (EMI America, I think this is the second press? Came out the same year)
This one has showed up already and I'm not sure if I'm excited about it or not. I love their EP so much but it seems like the riffs took such a huge backseat on the LP. I want to sit down with the lyrics and give it a focused listen. See what's what.

Angus - Track of Doom (Medusa Records, 1st press)
Waiting on this one and I'm antsy! For some reason (the album title I'm sure) I'd always had these guys filed away as doom. But after reading Gutterscream's review it seems like these dudes are right in my wheelhouse. Expecting to love this, already planning on grabbing the follow-up. How can you deny that incredible cover art?

Manilla Road - Mystification (Black Dragon Records, 2nd press)
This is my second album acquired from my all-time favorite band. My lady got me Open the Gates for christmas and I've been itching to add to the collection ever since. I'm trying to get as many of them on Black Dragon Records as possible. Currently this one is waiting to be rescued from the post-office but their hours are fucking heinous so it'll probably rot until friday or saturday. I can't wait to throw it up on the deck though. I've had the CD forever, and I think it's one of their coolest albums. He effortlessly marries thrash with atmosphere, which so few artists seem capable of.

Angel Witch - Angel Witch (Bronze Records, first press)
I've been looking for a reasonably priced copy of this for a while now. It hasn't even shipped yet but I'm over the moon about owning it. I was in such a hurry over the price that I forgot to ask about inserts. It probably doesn't have them which is a bummer but I'll live. This is a very special album to me and I can't wait to hear it on proper speakers for the first time.

Nice snags Jonpo! It always seems like you manage to pick up cool stuff.

And Immortal666, what version of The Sane Asylum is that???!!?? How you find? How you get? How much did it cost? I'm screaming; I HAVE A MIGHTY NEED

Thanks dude! I'm just trying to build a collection that I'm proud of. My CD collection is atrocious but I'm keeping the LPs laser-focused.

I think once I'm in my own place and have a much better source of income, I'll start hunting down old metal LP's too. My LP collection mostly consists of prog rock, but I do have some cool metal stuff. My CD collection is generally my go-to for adding stuff in, but I'm pretty picky actually.

Are you familiar with discogs.com? Because its unbelievably addicting. If I only bought LPs in person I'd not have a third of the rad collection I've amassed. Discogs is life. Discogs is everything. (The "Wantlist" feature is really cool. You can specify the EXACT version of any given record, and then you'll get an email every time a new copy goes up for sale with the details. It's amazing.)

I am, and I use it for deciding on versions of albums to buy and stuff. I've never actually purchased something on there, but I've always pondered trying. I may have to try buying something really cool from there sometime.

I've hardly had any troubles with sellers on discogs. Just be aware of their feedback rating and shipping policies before ordering. It's a blast dude. I spend a ridiculous amount of time pricing out records.

Bloodbound - War of Dragons [limited edition box set]

I was sent the wrong version of the Bloodbound album, so I'll have to wait a few more days for the replacement to arrive.

Did you order it straight from HRR? Or is there somewhere in North America taking pre-orders?

HRR. Haven't seen anyone in North America with it yet. I suspect Amazon will be getting copies at some point, but after The Blessed Curse fiasco I didn't want to risk them. The band will be getting copies in, too, if you want to wait for them to update their site (the Manilla Road site). And ever since they switched to that German label, Shadow Kingdom Records doesn't seem to get any of their new releases

It's the 2007 digipak reissue by Metal Mind Productions. I bought it for $25 Singapore Dollars at Ravage Records in Singapore when I visited that country last week. You can inquire with Khal, the store owner, if he still has it in stock or he can point you where to get it near you. Contact him thru his store's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ravageshop/

^^^ that's a flipping fantastic snag on both there. I oughtta grab that Sumerlands album as well, it rules. The poster that comes with Nightmare Logic is super badass btw! (It's a booklet/poster, but it is still awesome) Not to mention that the album itself is just absolutely wicked on all fronts.

Today I bought: Power Quest - Neverworld (digital)

Ash Borer - The Irrepassable Gate (Amber with black haze vinyl)
Benighted - Necrobreed (clear with red splatter vinyl)

I really enjoy both of these albums. Necrobreed is definitely one of my favorites so far this year. The Irrepassable Gate is also fantastic. I'm loving the other metal influences that appear here as well as the fantastic black metal riffing. Plus the golden etching on that vinyl sleeve is killer.

CD- Serpentine Dominion - Serpentine Dominion

HMV is going out of business so I decided to stop in and see what was left. Picked this up as I'm a fan of both Cannibal Corpse and Killswitch Engage. I like it, though it's a bit short. It's cool hearing Corpsegrinder do his thing over more melodic stuff.

Digital - Ex Deo - The Immortal Wars

Another fantastic album by Ex Deo.

1987 compilation from a southern California radio station KNAC 105.5 "Pure Rock". Picked it up cheap in the hopes some of the more threatening names don't sound like Junkyard (Steelmaster, Silent Rage, Tarrga, Nightfall). The less impressively-named acts are Snake Rock, Drive (who have a page here), Britton, Bedwild, Fanz, and Swan. Haven't tossed it on yet.

"Who's this again?" my brother asks as his exceptional jeep stereo explodes with sound.
"Lair of the Minotaur!", I say loudly.
"Glare of the Minotaur?"
"No, Lair...but that's a pretty damn good name too!".
