Who cares? Most metal CDs don't have a good re-sale value, whereas vinyl does. A big CD collection means nothing.

What does resale value have to do with a collection? I thought it was more about the love of the music, not how much you can turn a profit.

Two things I guess, first CDs can usually be bought on the cheap, so having a lot of CDs does not mean much when it comes to bragging rights, and second say I have a CD that generally sells for 50 bucks, and an LP that sells for the same (and I am not keen on keeping either) - it's almost guaranteed that I'll have an easier time selling or trading the LP. Surely you've seen those eBay auctions where some guy is getting rid of his entire collection and no one is bidding on the CDs, but the LPs have a crazy amount of bids on them? Also, it depends on the collection - if people are actively buying 1st presses when there are re-releases of the same album, then they're doing it for the value of the album.

I love the artwork on "The First Movement of the Nightmare", it's a painting called "The Nightmare" by a painter called Henry Fuseli. It's featured on the films "Gothic" and "Haunted Summer", which are (both) about the major Romantic poets (Byron and Shelley).

I'm not sure if you are just jealous or a fucking moron. I'm assuming both. a big cd collection means I have a big collect of music that I enjoy listening to. I'm not some fly by night change my tastes all the time idiot like you must be.

Fucking perfectly said^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I don't plan on selling my collection. if both me and the wife go deaf I'd rather melt them all down so no one else could enjoy them than sell them.

I often forget how insane some collections around here are. ;)

And yeah, of course I've been spending the best part of my money for the last 15 years in CDs so that I can resell them for a hefty price. I mean, if that's not collecting I don't know what is! :getout:

Which reminds me I have to go and check my PO Box for new good stuff

Most of the decent 'collection' threads seem to be locked, some of them are really good too :crash:
I don't really want to bump a thread from 2008...

13th Floor Elevators - The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators (2CD reissue)
Fifth Angel - Fifth Angel
Fifth Angel - Time Will Tell
Hexvessel - Dawnbearer
Kröwnn - Hyborian Age (the PRC Music version)
Moonsorrow - Kivenkantaja
Moonsorrow - V: Hävitetty
Moonsorrow - Tulimyrsky
Oranssi Pazuzu - Kosmonument
Rapoon - The Fires of the Borderlands (2CD reissue)
While Heaven Wept - Sorrow of the Angels

+ a medium-sized Revelation - Salvation's Answer T-shirt. Of course it had to be a 'Yankee medium' so it's as large as a...large. Oh well, now there's room to grow into it, I suppose. Keeping the gut in check gets increasingly harder with age. And of course the Fifth Angel CDs had to be bootlegs. Thanks Shadow Kingdom! I think I bought the last S/T but the 2nd album is still in stock, so beware if you care about such things. They never put facts like that in their item descriptions, afaik.

Haha Fisher & Paykel dryer. I remember trying to sell their top load dryers to customers, they always tried to tell me that they were washers and not dryers. I then blew their minds telling them that they were in fact a real brand based out of New Zealand.

Got this in the mail from NWN today:

Prosanctus Inferi ‎– Noctambulous Jaws Within Sempiternal Night (Diehard white vinyl with sticker and tapestry of the kickass artwork)

I ordered the Bolzer EP along with it too but they had to refund me as it was apparently out of stock unfortunately.

There's lots of metal albums that sell for like $5 or so on vinyl but sell for $100+ for the original cds. Most vinyl doesn't have good resale value either anyway. Not that the value should matter when collecting or anything, if the only reason you think a collection means anything is due to the resale value of it that is just sad.

obviously it is. As if I just purchased a bunch of cds to just tell people about it. My collection isn't even the biggest by any means. I buy what I like and enjoy and that's about it. I just happen to have a wide and diverse taste in music and metal.

and if anyone wanted to say something about compensating for a small penis it would be my collection of guitar gear since I have 23 heads and 16 cabs because I like having a range of tones to shape my various albums.

It's not my fault that anyone whom is jealous can't afford or couldn't work hard to earn the same. That would be my advice if you want to do the same. Sacrifice and hard work. I was never handed shit.

also slayerhatesusall totally agree. I bought cds cause I like them more than vinyl. I tend to buy for what's going to be most enjoyable for me to listen to, not to resell. Cause that's not the fucking point ever.

/rant over... bed time.

Love the album art for that.

My massive grind and assorted weirdness came in and Sara Stain: Void Blossoms was included. nice slab of pv/grind. only complaint is the vocals are too high in it.

also won another set of Cannabis Rex 12 speakers for a new guitar cab I'm building.

Edit: This Sara Stain has quite a few parts that really remind me of Flesh Parade in a good way

Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith (1984)

I previously only had some remastered version of this album but I found it for like five bucks at a used CD store. I'm extremely surprised by the difference in quality between the '84 version and my '01 version. The original CD just blows the remaster out of the water. Is this the case for all of the Judas Priest reissues? Because I have like five of their remastered CDs and I was fine with that before, but after hearing the original....

Sin After Sin is the only one that I'd argue benefits from a remaster. (Although there are even better versions of some songs on Unleashed in the East) In general though, the remasters are all brickwalled and obnoxious compared to the originals. It's worth your time to track down the original CDs or LPs.
