That album simply rips. Totally blown away. Have to say that the Australian metal scene is really burgeoning at the moment.

One does not simply walk into my local record store without finding out that some old metalhead has dumped some of his/her old vinyls and that a few of those are worth getting.

Yesterday I found:

Six Feet Under (Swe) - s/t

Trad. heavy metal from Sweden. Sounds like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xukxr8MbRlE

Norden Light (Swe) - Shadows from the Wilderness

More trad. heavy metal from Sweden. Sounds like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw0awRLHqWY

OZ - Fire in the Brain

This one should be familiar to everyone.

I love stores with used records...

Used stuffs for cheap. First the metal:
Image

Maladie - Plague Within
Sophicide - Perdition of the Sublime
Gorephilia - Embodiment of Death

Then the Blue Note:
Image

Joe Henderson - In 'n Out
Stanley Turrentine - Look Out!

Hilariously (but not really) one of the CD's I ordered, Italian black metal band Malfeitor's album Incubus, arrived as this instead:

Swing and a miss, quality control department!

I'm unable to provide a pic of the actual CD, as it's already in the garbage can underneath the coffee grounds. Luckily this company is pretty chill about taking care of botched or damaged orders.

There's been this lonely little brodequin CD that's been sitting in the discount bin at my work literally since I was hired almost two years ago, and I couldn't stand to see it sitting there cold and alone next to a bunch of god awful adult contemporary "greatest hits" albums anymore so I shelled out the 86 cents after my discount. I've never really listened to anything by Brodequin before, but I've been told they're basically like bottomfeeder death metal. First impression was it's pretty generic "angry bumblebee" guitarwork and those guttural vocals which at times can barely be heard over the shitty recording quality, but there's some pretty savage riffs thrown in sporadically throughout. Well worth the 86 cents.

Some time around 2002 or so, when I was just getting into the more brutal kind of death metal, and likewise was more active on trading forums, I saw a copy of Brodequin's Festival of Death up for trade and got into a minor "bidding war" over it. Another forum poster PM'd me and said he'd just send me a copy of the album for free. I was like, uh, sure? Turned out to be the drummer, Chad Walls, though I think he was going by "Captain Killdrums" at the time.

I guess the Brodequin economy has always been a struggling one.

Well, the used bins were kind to me yesterday. I picked up the following:

Iskra - Iskra LP

I love blackened crust, especially when it tends to be closer to the "black" side of the genre. I think this is a much more straightforward release than their Bureval LP--another album I really like. The vocals are mixed pretty high, but it's not overwhelming--even the bass is pretty audible. I don't know--I could see lots of people not being into it, especially if political themes are a turn off to your ears. I love that shit though, and really like this band.

Demons and Wizards - Touched By the Crimson King double pic. LP

Oh man, I listened to this album on repeat when it came out in 2005. I really, really liked power metal at the time, and I still worship at the altar of Hansi Kürsch. I love every Blind Guardian album, and I guess to me, this mostly just feels like one more of those. I'm okay with that. The album doesn't have great reviews here, but I still like a lot of the material on this. That said, the "Immigrant Song" cover is excruciating.

Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance LP

Not much I can add to the comments on this. Probably a classic that should be in everyone's collection, and probably already is since it sold a billion copies. The one I found is a first pressing, but no poster remains (bummer).

Iron Chic - Not Like This

Fair warning: this is a pop punk record. Not metal at all, but still fucking great. Lots of fun to listen to, and the band seems to have a pretty good sense of humor. That alone takes you a long way in my book.

Gotta respect any band that does stuff like that, especially over the internet.. It's not uncommon to see people passing out demos or EPs at like festivals or something, but over the internet it's like a rare occurrence of good will that just doesn't happen in the cynic universe that is the internet. After a second listen through, Methods of Execution is pretty cool, it's easier to pick out the savage riffs after getting used to the murky sound production
