It depends how it was sold to you, I suppose the DVD never came into the conversation?
Also if it came from a shop [traded in perhaps] it may not have been complete and the shop owner or whoever may not have even known about the DVD.

That Immolation CD isn't worth that much, you can get a legit one for that price.

No, I doubt that he even know there was a DVD, he said that he hadn't even listened to them.
I'll return it, what do you think about the price of Testament?

Top or bottom, it's two images stitched together.
Top = counterfeit
Bottom = legit [which I also have]
It's the same image as at Discogs, you can't link to images there by the way, the link is dead.

About the price, if you were in USA or the EU somewhere these CDs would be $5 maybe $10 or $15 in a shop, neither of them are rare or collectible.
I'm way down here in New Zealand and I paid about $30 NZD for both of them, where are you?

Now I'm confused, how is the matrix inverted in the first picture up there?

Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

OH, do you mean the colors are inverted? Okay, gotcha. I have a few where the matrix code is inverted, that's fine though.

Author:  dreadmeat [ Sun May 18, 2014 12:07 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

inverted not backwards or 'mirrored' ;)

Author:  TheDarkHarvest [ Sun May 18, 2014 12:13 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

Okay, haha. Thanks for the clarification, mirrored matrix codes are fine, but that color switch (inversion) shouldn't be like that on any cd?

Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

I'm in Serbia, we don't have much record shops here so I've bought all of my CDs from different persons.
But I've checked one shop's catalog and they sell all Testament albums for 10$
So I guess 2$ isn't that much of a loss, I'll return that Immolation anyway.

Yes, mirrored isn't really accurate anyway really, turn the disc over = not mirrored heh :p
It just depends on which way round it was stamped, manufacturers preference I suppose.

To easily read them hold it up to a mirror, I use a platter from inside a hard drive, perfect mirror finish and has a hole in the middle.

Serbia? I haven't sent any CDs to Serbia yet.
I can only imagine how much fake stuff is floating about over there, my immolation CD came from Ukraine...

There are a lot of Bulgarian fakes, but they are poorly made and easy to notice/avoid.

I'll keep all of this in mind when buying online. Amazon has been fine so far because many of the sellers are big companies (Zoverstocks, gohastings, goodwill, etc), but I'll hvae to be wary if I start buying from Ebay, luckily I haven't been going for any albums that are plagued with LOTS of counterfeits.

Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

There are far too many of these bootlegs, i got a copy of Demigod's slumber of sullen eyes, and i'll be fucked that the thing was a Bulgarian knockoff that I payed well over $50 for back in 2003. Same problem, same inversion bullshit.

Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

There are so many bootlegs around that it's becoming hard to get things straight. Just got a copy of Coroner's No More Color from Hammerheart ebay store that, after some inquiring, they disclosed to be a unofficial release. I wouldn't trust Amazon either, not the 3rd party seller at least. Zoverstocks I bought some stuff from and they are pretty honest.

Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

Nothing I've gotten on amazon has been a boot so far, but I'm not going after really expensive stuff.

Axxmachine666 please define "the same" do you mean the same text or identical in every way or what ?
You'll see differences in the fonts, spacing, size of the text, orientation etc also IFPI SID codes or the lack of

Why, what's up?

Hi Bro, a friend of mine bought a cd : INCUBUS – Beyond The Unknown. And he is very confused about the cd, everything seem very good. And got the matrix number NB 039-2 also. I have told him that the cd is original, but he still do not satisfy with the cd, cause he “thought” that the BACK COVER of this cd is not as old as the front cover. I mean that the back cover seem “newer” than the front cover. And this the problem. And he still so confused even i have told !!! So then i ask in this forum to make him happy for the information.

Grave - Into The Grave

Why am I seeing different artwork on the front cover?
I see it was reissued with different artwork but older ones have the BIG logo on the front but also without this
My original LP has the BIG logo

I'm actually finding it pretty hard to believe I haven't stumbled on any bootlegs in my journey. Everything I find that I'm iffy about is usually just another reissue/repress or the real thing.

Hi! Want to know which one could be the real "Cryptopsy - None so Vile [WAR 009]" first press? Or which one could be the bootleg?

There are two version runout area I have, silver and transparent.

1.The silver version mould code is "ifpi 8416".
(My friend has the silver version too, but his mould code is "ifpi 8406", which could be the earlier press? 8416 or 8406?)
Image

2.The transparent version mould code is "ifpi 8419".
(Someone has the "ifpi 8408" version.)

I have a copy that was bought around the time the CD was first released and it has the 8406 number on it, plus "IFPI LB01" if that's any help. Silver version.

I bought Neurosis's The Eye of Every Storm second handed. The artwork got my attention
Image
There is no logo and the storm is different as you can see. No barcode, but cat# is RR 6599-2. Matrix / Runout is 0jg96<7232>6599 which doesn't match with the ones in Discogs with the same cat#.

Does anyone know which version this is, and is it a bootleg or official one?

Author:  ~Guest 82538 [ Tue May 27, 2014 4:16 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

Does it come with a slipcase or is it just the insert in the jewel case? The storm is indeed reversed but it could be just that, or even a later repress by Relapse. They do them in metric tons.

Author:  Kommandojonna [ Tue May 27, 2014 4:22 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

In the jewel case without any slipcase. The plastic part is white instead of usual black or transparent. But I can't be sure if the original owner has lost the slipcase. If so, he didn't bother to mention it.

Author:  ~Guest 82538 [ Tue May 27, 2014 4:29 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

That could be it. It isn't unheard of to have different artwork on the slipcase and booklet. I can't compare it because I still have to purchase that one myself. I know, I know...

Author:  Kommandojonna [ Tue May 27, 2014 4:52 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

There is a trace of price tag on the jewel case so it would suggest that it was bought as a new without the slipcase. Missing slipcase isn't a big deal for me, but I hope I didn't pay for bootleg.

Post subject:  Re: CD Identification, Matrix & Bootleg Help Thread

Matrix / Runout is 0jg96<7232>6599 looks normal, how different is it to what's at Discogs already? like that funny guy said, it could be a repress.

Discogs has those. My copy matches with the third one. I didn't notice it at first. Seems its Reissue from 2012. So the slipcase is missing. I hope that the previous owner still has it and is willing to send it me. (Not).

Yes, this is a bootleg. Coincidentally a couple weeks ago we had Napalm Death playing here in Puerto Rico and one of the guys selling CD's had that Realm CD for sale at $5.00. That same matrix number.

I had an original I bought back in 1990. Matrix is: MADE BY DISCTRONICS (H) W.O. 10990-1 RCD9509
