The band's name is a reference to Yyrkoon, cousin of Elric of Melniboné from Michael Moorcock's high fantasy writings.

Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork) played drums for Yyrkoon on a European tour with Impaled Nazarene and Phazm, and as a session musician on "Occult Medicines".
