Originally formed as a punk band called The Jaycocks. Eventually they changed their name (and their sound drastically) to Esoteric after opening for the popular hardcore band Coalesce in 1998, but decided to change the name to "The Esoteric" after finding out about the well-known and older British funeral doom ...
