Stormblown started out as a solo project by Skyggesang, but later became a full band, though Skyggesang still does all the songwriting.

The band's name is deducted from the Dimmu Borgir album "Stormblåst".

Stormblown was on hold from March 2008 to January 2009 due to Tjerk Hoeksta's long-lasting illness.
