Xaphan conceptualized Seigneur Voland in 1996 while serving a prison sentence for grave desecration. He was released in April 1999 and recruited other members.

In the Middle Ages, 'Seigneur Voland' was the name given to Satan in the North of France.

All activities ended in 2002 but Seigneur Voland reformed to play live for 3 reunion gigs in 2004 (Holland, Switzerland and France).
