The Nirvana 2002 moniker came from two earlier names of the project: the first was Prophet 2002, then changed to Nirvana. A little bit later, the Seattle grunge band Nirvana released its first 7" EP on Sub Pop Records, so they added the previous suffix 2002. This was before Nirvana and Kurt Cobain became well-known.
