Mercyful Fate was formed in 1981 in Copenhagen (Denmark) on the ashes of the punk/metal band Brats, by vocalist King Diamond (King Diamond, ex-Black Rose) (real name Kim Bendix Petersen) and guitarist Hank Shermann (real name Rene Krolmark).
