Lake of Tears first came together in 1992 when Daniel Brennare, Jonas Eriksson, and Mikael Larsson left the death metal band they were playing in and hooked up with Johan Oudhuis.

A tribute (double) album to Lake of Tears was released in 2012, titled "Twenty Years in Tears". Another (double) album was released in 2014, titled "Twenty Years in Tears 2".
