Formed in 1993, first as Shamaani Duo and later as Shaman. The name was changed to Korpiklaani in 2003 to reflect the band's change in direction and English lyrics (and according to Jonne Järvelä also to avoid confusion with Shaman), though since their fourth album they have been writing mostly in Finnish. "Korpiklaani" is Finnish for "Clan of the Wilderness".
