Formed in 1993, first as Shamaani Duo and later as Shaman. The name was changed to Korpiklaani in 2003 to reflect the band's change in direction and English lyrics (and according to Jonne Järvelä also to avoid confusion with the Brazilian power metal band Shaman), even if since their fourth album they have been writing mostly in Finnish.
