The band was founded in late 1980 under the name Sinister Savage. 1982 they changed the name to Griffin.

Mike "Yaz" Jastremski (guitar) joined Heathen in 1986, between albums, while Thomas "Hawk" Mayberry left in 1985.

Rick Wagner and William McKay were both in early (1980-81) incarnations of Metal Church.
