The band started under the moniker R.A.H. in 1990 and played a mix of black metal and grindcore. They changed their name to Belphegor in 1991.

The band also appeared with Occult, Noctran Demanto, Carnifixion and Fallen Temple at the infamous Black Flame Festival in Elsloo on August 8th, 1992.
