Obliteration are from Kolbotn (the hometown of Darkthrone). They settled on playing classic-styled death metal after experimenting with things like punk and dual bass guitar (presumably in the Man is the Bastard style). In 2005 they played the Inferno festival and in 2006 the Hole-in-the-Sky Festival. These two high-profile performances led to their recording contract.
