Formed after the demise of Godflesh and a fair amount of the lyrical matter deals with emotions brought up by the end of that band. The band is named after the last song on Godflesh's last studio album "Hymns".

Jesu was a one man band with the first EP "Heartache" featuring Justin playing and programming everything. Jesu became a full band by the self titled release.

Justin Broadrick has played as a guest member of Sunn O))) on their 2006 European tour.
