Mercyful Fate was formed in 1981 in Copenhagen (Denmark) on the ashes of the Punk/Metal band Brats, by vocalist King Diamond (ex-Black Rose (Dnk)) (real name Kim Bendix Petersen) and guitarist Hank Shermann (real name Rene Krolmark).
