Rainbow, despite the illusion of being a full fledged band, has always been more of a Ritchie Blackmore solo project. The band started out as a side project when Ritchie wanted to record a cover of "Black Sheep of the Family", which was an idea apparently rejected by Deep Purple while recording "Stormbringer."
