Johan Längqvist was the session vocalist for Swedish doom metal band Candlemass during their first studio recording. He recorded vocals for their first album "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus", and departed soon after (despite Candlemass' countless efforts to make him stay), reputably to work on a pop project he had started earlier.

Unlike his successor Messiah Marcolin, Längqvist was a baritone, which meant he had a lower pitched voice and therefore sang the songs in a lower vocal range than Marcolin.
Before taking part in the recording of "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus", Längqvist had been performing vocals in short-lived Swedish heavy metal band Jonah Quizz. They released only one demo before they split up.
