Orson Welles was an American film director, actor, theatre director, screenwriter, and producer, who worked extensively in film, theatre, television and radio. Despite haphazard success in his own lifetime, Welles is generally recognised as an innovative artist, with his first film Citizen Kane frequently cited as being among the best ever made.
A brief caveat late in Welles' career was being hired by Manowar to narrate on the song "Dark Avenger" from their 1982 album Battle Hymns. They used his services again a year later for the single "Defender". The song was re-recorded again in 1987 using the original narration, two years after Welles' death.
