"The System Has Failed" was originally intended to be a Dave Mustaine solo album, but for contractual reasons was released under the Megadeth name. Mustaine originally stated that it would be the final Megadeth album, but later announced that the band would continue as normal.
The lyrics of "Shadow of Deth" are taken from Psalm 23.
Music videos were made for "Die Dead Enough" and "Of Mice And Men".
The Japanese release contains the bonus track "The Day The Music Died", taken from MD.45's only album.
