"Defender" was recorded during the "Into Glory Ride" sessions, but left off the album due to time constraints. A rearranged version of the song was recorded for "Fighting the World" in 1987, featuring the original narration by Orson Welles.

Re-released as CD single on Geffen Records in 1994. The re-release features completely remixed versions of both tracks. It has the song 'Hatred' (07:50) instead of 'Gloves Of Metal' as B-side.

The left cover is the original release and the right is the 1994 re-release.
