The Circus Maximus was written and recorded as a Mark Shelton solo project. Black Dragon Records insisted it be released as a Manilla Road album to increase its commercial potential.

Mark Shelton sings lead vocals on tracks 1, 5, and 10.
Andrew Coss sings lead vocals on tracks 2, 4, 7, 8, and 11.
Aaron Brown sings lead vocals on tracks 3, 6, and 9.

Re-released in 2002 by Iron Glory Records on CD and FOC-2LP (limited to 500 copies black vinyl and 100 copies yellow/black vinyl).

Re-released on vinyl by High Roller Records on August 6, 2013, with new artwork. DLP limited to 500 copies (100 x transparent clear vinyl, 230 x blood red vinyl, 170 x black vinyl) with downfold gatefold cover, poster and insert.

Recorded 1992 at Miller Studio in North Newton, KS, USA and Roadster Studio in Wichita, KS, USA.
Mixed at Miller Studio.
