According to the liner notes, the figure on the cover is supposed to be Randall Flagg, a character from Stephen King's "The Stand". He also inspired the album's title.

This album was dedicated to the memory of Cliff Burton, the late bassist of Metallica.

Music videos were made for Indians and Caught in a Mosh.

Anthrax had a falling out with producer Eddie Kramer during the mixing of the album, as he wanted to give them a more "polished" sound, but eventually the band members prevailed.

This was one of the first Anthrax albums to obtain Gold status by the RIAA.

Efilnikufesin (N.F.L.) is "Nice Fucking Life" in Anthrax-speak (backwards).

On Anthrax's reunion tour in 2005 the majority of their concert set consisted of material from "Among the Living" while on their 2006 tour at solo-dates they performed the album in its entirety.

Recording information:

Produced by Eddie Kramer and Anthrax.
All music and lyrics by Anthrax, except tracks 3 & 9, written by Anthrax and Dan Lilker.
