Final full-length recording with singer Layne Staley, who died of a drug overdose seven years later.

This album is also known as "Tripod", based on the album's cover art, which depicts an image of a three-legged dog, as well as the back cover art featuring a three-legged man (computer edited George Formby, Jr.).

Initial versions were released with two different limited coloured jewel-cases: Green case/purple tray and Purple case/green tray. The purple case version was by far the more limited and rare of the two.

Videos for "Grind", "Heaven Beside You" and "Again" were made to promote this album.

The Japanese edition features two bonus tracks:
13. Again (Tattoo of Pain Mix)
14. Again (Jungle Mix)

Recording information:

Recorded at Bad Animals, Seattle, WA.
Mixed at Electric Lady.
Mastered at Marcussen Mastering.
